In the midwest, wow that is unusual. I know they've been talking about a fault line which runs through middle America, but the probability of having an earthquake there, for real, always seems more the stuff of science fiction. And while a 4.5 isn't much, I'm sure it was enough to rattle the nerves of folks not use to that sort of thing. Personally, I've always found tornadoes and electrical storms....abundant in your part of the world....far scarier.
When I was younger my friend and I felt a small earthquake, was so funny because I was grounded from the t.v. yet was watching some scary ghost movie when it happened. We both looked at each other and when we realized neither of us had moved the couch...we screamed and bolted outdoors. An earthquake was something we hadn't ever thought of happening in Illinois.
I remember when I was living with my dad for a year in Medford, MA, I was in the upstairs bathroom walking towards the sink, and suddenly was being moved AWAY from the sink, but not under my own power. And I have been on a horse in a field, where she didn't want to move, just stood there snorting like a dragon, and I saw the ground MOVE in a little swell-like wave. Well, that did it for me and I was convinced the ground would crack open. I shook for hours after that. Wigged me out.
I used to be terrified of thunder and lightning, and would lay in bed under the covers and hold my breath 'cause I was convinced the lightning was gonna 'get' me.
Speaking of things that wig me out, I have an irrational fear of clowns and mannequins as well. Can't watch It, gotta skip the part in Poltergeist with the clown in it, circuses are OUT OF THE QUESTION. Alot of stores don't use mannequins anymore, so thank god for that because if I couldn't shop, what's the reason to keep living, LOL?
I'm STILL terrified of thunder and lightning. If it's right above the house, I'm terrified it's going to hit the house. Clowns and mannequins don't bother me, though.

Northern Illinois- It was very small, but definitely an uncommon thing.

After living in Alaska for 11 years (and experiencing some major shakes) a 4.5 ain't enough to wake me up.
LOL....
I have actually had shakes toss little ole me outta bed and others knock me to my knees.
They are actually quite thrilling and the adrelalin rush is awesome - but very destructive as well.
They say that the midwest rests on a HUGE fault line that could
