Our new pet - OT

Had the urge to buy a goldfish today as I was driving to WalMart. I bought a good size vase, polished river stones, and at the pet store, got a Black Moor, the fat bulbousy-looking fish with the fancy tails and big googley eyes. I rinsed everything well when I got home, and deposited Oscar in there, along with a Philodendron plant that I kept in a vase of water (it REFUSES to grow in dirt, so in the vase it stays)and he resides on our kitchen table. Fish boy at the store said plants were fine - they will nibble at them though. He is SO cut, just bopping around in there !

***And just to clarify, I am in NO WAY attempting to compete with Shawna in the pet collecting department. Oscar is more ornamental than anything els. It's not like you can take him out and play with him. Well, you CAN, but that would suck for Oscar.***

Oh how neat! I've seen those type of setups...fish with plant on top! I want one too. Although, I already have an 85 gal and 50 gal saltwater tank in my house. Hmmmm and 4 cats....wow...now that I think of it...maybe I don't need one. Okay well maybe for my desk at work. (okay now I'm talking to myself)

We had a fish at work for a while. It belonged to one of my coworkers. I work in the payroll dept and we moved to a more "secure" area in the building behind glass windows (I think they were trying to tell us something lol), so everyone joked that we were in the fishbowl. So my coworker brought in the fish from home. But then she transferred and took the fish with her :(

LOL, no, I don't think it would be any fun for Oscar to take him out and play with him! I would LOVE to get a fish! But my cat would probably eat it so it's probably not a good idea.

**Edited to say--I don't think you could compete with Shawna in the pet dept unless you bought a zoo!

HA HA! I thought that would get ya goin'! Yes, everyone, Shawna came up with the brilliant moniker Oscar. I had my chief friend over for dinner tonight and he was also doing some finish work on the bed he built Kyle and I, and all during dinner he kept laughing and saying he felt like he was being watched. I said that he was, and gestured to the centerpice with my fork. He hadn't seen Oscar bopping around in the roots of the plant!

I can't decide if Oscar is cute or homely. He is a mouth breather so it looks like he's always talking.

For all of you that think this is a good idea, it's really simple to set up - get a glass vase that holds around a gallon of water, some polished river stones or fish rocks, and a rooting plant.
