Desperately Tired of Going Nowhere

Ladies, I am feeling quite frustrated.

I have been working out 3 days/week intensely and eating a vegetarian diet and I'm not losing any weight. I admit, I like hard candy, but Ive been pretty good about drinking water and watching my intake. Sometimes I drift from 245 to 240, but that's what I call my "security field" as that I am never out of that range. Id seriously try the south beach diet, but I eat so much fruit and bread that Im not sure if I would survive. Did you know you can't eat watermelon on that diet at all?? Can anyone give me some advice? Should I try south beach and get rid of carbs? I am going back to college in a month and a half and would like my body to at least look and feel a little better.

Hi,

I wish I had the answers. I know that a vegetarian diet alone won't produce weight loss unless it is also a lower calorie veggie diet. Trust me, last time I ate a hamburger I was in sixth grade and weighed less than a hundred pounds. Today I'm 26 and weigh the same as you. We veg-heads still get into trouble with dairy, fats from oils and sweets and plain old too many carbs. I actually think a lot of my weight gain had to do with not eating meat, along with not trying to eat a healthy veggie diet (I ate lots of cheese, sweets and pasta). I don't have the answers, like I said. I'm struggling hard and trying to lose without counting calories since I get obsessive and eventually binge (then gain more than I lost).

Good luck to you!

Erin

nothing is really completely off limits in phase 3 (lifetime maintenance) of SBD, which I am on. I personally think SBD is a very very healthy way of eating, with emphasis on whole grains, lots of veggies, fruit, and lean protein.

I suggest you read the book.

I'd have to agree with Spamsammich, even tho I have never done SBD. I have done Atkins, but for some reason my body couldn't handle all the saturated fat. I went to see a dietician and she put me back on a version of Atkins/SBD - I am on a low carb/healthy carb, low fat/healthy fat diet. I get fruits, veggies, lean proteins, nuts, peanut butter, skim milk, olive oil, fish..basically all the food I love and in portion sizes that reflect what I should be eating.

I'd recommend you see a dietician - you never know, you could be sabotaging yourself by eating something that is high in fat or carbs. Meat doesn't make you fat. In fact, lean proteins help build muscle and are important. You can get complete protein from a mixture of beans and rice, fish, tofu, eggs - it doesn't have to be meat.

I've given a copy of my diet to alot of women here at their request. It's blown 20 pounds off me since the beginning of April, but I was super-anal and stuck to it word for word. If you are interested, let me know. I know how frustrating it can be.

I sure don't know the answer but for me I do know I am a carb addict. I am trying to really watch my carbs. I have never been a meat lover
