IM Starving!!!! serious support needed!

Okay I can deal with the 2000 calorie bit unless I am eating a whole lot im usually under that anyway… but this low carb thing is not what its cracked up to be!!! Im starving!!! My baby is starving!! I don’t know if its just me or what…. But I have not learned much about the low carb diet yet so I am not sure what is “safe” and what is not I been living off of salads (actually it needs to be called lettuce and broccoli ) and that low carb dressing… I guess I didn’t realize how much my diet consisted of things with carbs… im rarely a breakfast person…. Lunch consist of usually a sandwich of some kind… (this pregnancy I mostly craved PB&J and I been craving milk a lot ) with dinner we always have either some kind of potato or pasta… and its hard because I still have to cook these things for my family…. And yes I usually end up eating it because im hungry and I figure I have to eat something right? I don’t believe it is safe to not eat when your pregnant… and I realized that meat is more of a side dish to me… so I have to find out what is safe to eat to keep my sugars down…. It would be hard financially to be cooking up meat or even meals in the afternoon and just trying to buy separate things is almost impossible…. just not sure what im supposed to be doing to handle this as far as eating and not being so hungry,,,,i know i have to do

Desiree, have you talked to your doctor yet?

Des, Shawna is right, check with your doc. You shouldn't feel starved. Maybe having a list would help or even a sample menu. Not all low carb diets are the same. Diabetic books might give you some clues too as they are lower carb. Maybe ask about grams of carbs allowed. You should be able to have some fruit too and that usually helps me feel less hungry. Cheese satisfies me too, but meat definitely can help in good moderation. Good luck!

Des, I'm new so I hope you don't mind my butting in here. I was wondering if your OBGYN has you on a special diet. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter and was put on a diabetic diet, low-carbs & low-fat. I didn't gain any weight or lose any, but I had plenty to eat and wasn't ever hungry. Maybe something like that would work for you, too. You really should talk to your Dr. about this ASAP. For you and your baby's sake.

Also I know of this government info site that I and some friends have used to get info from: http://www.4woman.gov/faq/preg-nutr.htm

Please take care of yourself and your baby-to-be.

Vivian

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you have gestational diabetes. With my son I failed the 1 hour and was terrified and read all about it because I hate meat and I had no idea what to eat. I'm guessing you just found out that you failed the 3 hour? Your doctor should set you up with a dietician, and if he/she doesn't, I'd request it. I know cottage cheese and peanut butter are great options for easy protein. Veggie burgers and veggie sausage also are really fast to make (microwave) and taste good. You might also want to look into some of those low-carb snack bars for times when you are on the go and really need a quick snack.

Good luck, Des. GD is not easy, but as soon as you pop that beautiful baby out, you'll be able to eat carbs freely!

Des, You've got to eat some protein. PB is good. Add eggs and meat. They will help you feel fuller. Also you can eat dairy. Cheese will help fill you up. Only eat the starches ( potatoes and pasta) in limited quantities. Other nuts are OK too. Good Luck to you. Hugs, Brenda

well Des you shouldn't be starving, i am surprised your dr or receptionist didn't give you a paper on what's good to eat. But i know low carbers eat more than salads..lol..maybe check the low carb sites out to see their menu's/recipes section. i don't know much about low carbing, i was looking into south beach and it's about good carbs so wheat bread, wheat pasta, natural peanut butter and milk's ok so you would eat what you want just a heathier version. Maybe call your dr and see if south beach is ok if not then have them tell you what to and what not to eat. Good Luck Des, find something that works because an uncomfortable pregnancy isn't what you need.
