Carol Here I am in Iowa and Married with 2 grown children and a grandaughter!
I am doing a version of low carb I am using leslie sansones walking tapes and my treadmile and walking outside. I want to lose weight because I want to be around to watch my sweet granddaughter and any other grandkids I have grow up!
Amy, New Hampshire, 265/157-159 (hovering)/155? 150?
I am doing a lower-fat/good fat diet prescribed to me by a dietician, and before that I was doing Atkins. I lost weight doing Atkins, but have blown off over 20 pounds since the beginning of April on this other diet. I exercise rather sporadically, but I walked a mile and a half last night and ran for 3/4 of a mile, something I've NEVER done before. I shocked myself. My biggest reason for losing weight, is that I got up to 265 in 2000, and didn't see it slowing down, so I had to do something, because I looked like hell. And I'm not going to personally fool myself by saying 'it's inside what counts', even though to some extent it IS, but I felt nasty, my joints and back hurt, and I couldn't look at myself. Any advice I have, I'll share. First, educate yourself on your body, its needs, and how things work. You don't have to get into microbiology, but a basic understanding is important. If you are unsure how to eat, what to eat and so on, and books confuse you, see a dietician. Be patient with yourself, and build a little 'me' time into your life, drink buttloads of water, and do some light exercise to start with.
I can elaborate more, but I gotta go to work. WAH!
I've been absent for a while. I've been lurking, but have been too busy to post. Sorry!
I'm making healthier food choices, trying to watch my portions (still working on that one lol!), exercising and drinking water. I like to walk, do exercise videos (my fav's are the Firm and WATP). My biggest reason for losing weight is that I want more out of life. I'm sick of not being able to do things because I'm too fat or out of shape. I want to have the confidence to try new things. My advice would be to be patient. Take things slowly and make small changes. Those small changes will add up to big rewards.
I love my eating plan so far. I basically decided to go this route on my own. My family Dr. said that I was playing Russian Roulette with my life if I didn't lose the weight, but he didn't recommend a certain plan. I figured that if I followed a plan that encompassed a few of the popular weight loss ideas I'd end up with something balanced.
The big issue for me is that I have had to make the time to cook things up on Sundays to do me meal-wise for the week. At first I hated it, but now my dh is helping and it's not such a chore. Thank God for freezers! I just found a great site for recipes today too, www.foodfit.com Some of the stuff on the site requires a membership, but anyone can use the recipe finder for free.
Anyway, here's what a day on my plan looks like:
Breakfast:
Omelete made with egg substitute, green peppers, mushrooms (no cheese)
8 oz. glass of skim milk
2-3 cups of decaf coffee/ black
one piece of whole wheat toast with tsp of "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter"
1/2 cup of strawberries and blueberries
A.M. Snack:
1 Cup of Soy yogurt
1 small apple
1 can of Diet Sprite
Lunch:
grilled chicken breast
1 Cup of grilled zuchinni and tomatoes
Garden salad
Ice tea with splenda
P.M. Snack:
Banana Smoothie
> blend the following ingredients<
1/2 cup orange juice
1 cup of soy yogurt
2 small bananas
Splenda to taste
Dinner:
Vegetarin Black Bean Soup
Natural Salsa and low carb tortilla chips (GeniSoy brand chips)
Roasted Peppers (red, yellow, and green)
Ice tea with Splenda
Before Bed:
1 sugar free popsicle
Seems like a lot of food I guess, but I am losing weight and not the least bit hungry which is a huge marker of success for me.
Glad to make your sharky aquaintance!

Food diary/counting calories
I exercise when I remember/feel like it
Biggest reason: Dating
What diet are you following, if any? eDiets/calorie counting
What exercise regimen are you currently doing? 32 minutes of circuit training 3x/week and at least a one mile walk twice a week
What's your biggest reason for losing weight? to feel better about myself and to promote a healthier lifestyle for my son
Anything else that could be helpful to others??? Just keep trying, don't give up.
Fear
"Diet: I'm basically going low-cal,low-fat,low-carb. I eat mostly veggies and lean protein."
You too ? How is it going for you? I did Atkins for a while and saw a dietician who put me on low carb/low fat and limited calories.
I'd like to hear (read, LOL) your input on what you are doing !
Thanks you (and welcome to our little world!)
Amy

Plan - low carb/low fat (modified Atkins,SBD and a combo of Amy's)
Exercise - none right now, just trying to move around more
Reason ~ I feel like crap, knees, back pain, heartburn etc. The other reasons are completely vain!
Gosh - don't think I can give any advice right about now!!!!!
