Hi i am 28 years old and have three children youngest is 3. Anyways i am at a weight i dont like. I weighed 264 and am down to 254 but would like to lose more. When i was at 264 my blood pressure was border line it was like 154/95 and since i lost the 10 pounds its normal 127/80 the dr was very happy and so was i. I joined the community challange and am hoping by having other people with weight problems it will help me. I hate being this weight. I am hoping to get at least to 190 I will still have more to go but i would feel better. Is losing that much weight an unrealistic goal? It has been day 3 of my diet i am keeping a journal and am watching what i eat and how much no more soda or chips or candy and i am going to start walking again. How long will it take to lose at least 40 pounds etc by watching what i eat? Is there anyone that has been close to my weight that has lost alot of it and how long before people notice it? What about my stomach will it shrink or will it be saggy. I hate the look of my body my husband says i look fine. thanks for listening hope i get some replies and get to know some of you. Good luck in your weight loss.

Hi Jessie and welcome! Congrats on the weight loss so far and getting your BP under control! Your goals are not unrealistic at all. They're very doable. We do have a couple of people here who started out at about your weight and have lost a lot of weight, so it can be done. I'm sure they'll share their stories when they read your post. As far as how long it will take to lose 40 pounds, well that's hard to answer because everyone is different. We're all on different plans and our bodies are different, so we may lose at different paces. A 1-2 pound a week loss is realistic. I've been doing this since the beginning of the year, and I've lost 31.5 pounds so far, but I know if I had been more strict with my eating and exercise, it would probably be more. Good luck :)

Hi Julie,

No, it's not an unrealistic goal. But don't worry about it....just keep going, and you'll get there. Also, don't worry about "how long does it take." It takes what it takes! Look at it this way....time will pass, whether or not you watch what you eat. The only difference is, if you do take care of yourself then you're likely to enjoy your future more than if you don't.

Yes, keep a journal. It helps keep one "honest" and it's a good gage of where you are in terms of calories eaten and left to consume in the course of your day. It's the best tool I, personally, used. And yes, cut out the junk food. Those things are called "empty calories" for a reason. And you'll find that, if you eat all the fruits and veggies the govt recommends (for example) and the other healthy foods....well, frankly, you won't have much room for (or desire to eat)junk food anyway.

And don't worry about "how long before people notice it." You're not doing this to get noticed....you're doing this for yourself, for your health and enjoyment of life....right? It's not dependent on what other people notice, or do not notice. About saggy skin....who knows....so much depends upon skin tone, heredity, that sort of thing anyway. And if it sags initially....it likely will tighten up over time. And look at it this way....no one EVER died of sagging skin. BUT lives can be, and are, cut short by the consequences of obesity.

To answer your question....last year, about this time, I was heavier than that. And now...well, now....I'm basically normal weight, but would like to lose just a few more pounds. It can be done. Just start somewhere (and you've done that) and KEEP IT UP!
