Farmer's Markets

Hi,
On saturday I went to the local farmer's market. I'm getting addicted. There is nothing nicer than truly fresh food. Here's what I got: fresh feta cheese, basil, three kinds of local garlic, shallots (like a cross between onion and garlic if you've never tried them-great for cooking), fresh mushrooms and organic sundried tomato rolls. All of it is wonderful.

Does anyone else go to the farmer's market? If you are someone who thinks that they don't like fruits or veggies, I highly recommed trying out some fresh (and new) varities.

HAHAHAHA!! Ivillage told me I had to edit this message because of an objectionable word. My mushrooms were shiitake, and I spelled them the more americanized way with only one i.

I need to find a farmer's market around here. I keep hearing about how good they are and the produce in the grocery store isn't always very good.

I just came across this web site and read your info. I really enjoy going to farmers markets here in central PA. Beware - stay away from the baked goods.......Best of luck to you in reaching your goals!
I'm with you...once the summer hits, the fresh markets go away.
Fear
The only problem I have with veggie stands is this:
Off of 93 in Plymouth - exit 26 - there is a farm called Longview (or Perkin's if you know the family) that has fresh stuff including corn late in the summer. They have alot of wonderful stuff, and they alos have dairy cows, and I like to play with the calves in the calf pens in the smaller barn. Now, being as weird as I am, I like to smell the tops of their heads because they smell like fresh milk (from nursing)and let them slurp my fingers. They are soooooo cute! The big ones are cute too, but usually covered in cowBLEEP! and are NOT good to snuggle with.
In Sugar Hill/Franconia, there is another farm - Sal Hanna's - and they have good stuff too.
I couls seriously eat ten ears of sweet local corn....but the aftermath is NOT worth it!
