How about Clannad, Loreena McKennitt, and Putumayo's Women of the Celtic World? I have an enormous celtic music collection, as i used to be the music buyer for a bookstore I worked at for 3 years - Innisfree Books (like the Isle of Innisfree..Yates poem I think)and it is a primarily Irish/Celtic Bookstore, but like a mini Borders. has a huge occult section, and tons of Celtic/Scot/Irish Music. gaelic Storm, Chieftains, Enya, and 100 others... I loved it and really got into the music, especially BAGPIPES. Hey, I'm of Scottish descent, go figure!

And I WORSHIP Sarah McLachlan, although technically not Celtic.

I am the other metalhead. For this poll, I figured it was closest to hard rock. I listen to Metallica, Korn, Audioslave, and alternative stuff like Alice In Chains and Nirvana. Sometimes, 80's hair will creep in, but not often.

Skiffle...I knew it would throw people. It's a type of music that was popular in Great Britan in the late 50's. It was one of the early musical "fads", and many guitar virtuosos got their start playing skiffle. In fact, Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page first appeared on television when he was around 12, playing skiffle for a national audience.

Tony

(Note: I do not listen to skiffle. I do not even know what it sounds like.)

I don't necessarily *work out* to any special music, in fact I suppose you could say I don't *work out* in the sense that I think you're meaning at all.

I do whatever pleases me, on a particular day, as long as I'm doing something to get in a little extra exercise. For instance, no music this morning but I went for a swim first thing in the morning, and that took about an hour. I take stairs, park away from buildings (when it's safe to do so), and make it a habit to walk the couple blocks to a grocery store when I'm picking up just a few things. I also go for evening walks. But then, I do other *active* sorts of things: took some dancing lessons, participated in community "clean ups" and generally do whatever, whenever. As long as it's an extra activity before bedtime, that suits me best. Sometimes, music is involved. But not necessarily. And I'm just not the kind of person who would enjoy *working out* in the sense of going to a gym, or exercising in front of the television or anything like that. I'd rather just get out and do something, like take a walk or even wash all the windows in the house!

Forte,

What kind of dancing lessons did you take? Did you like them? I'd love to learn how to do salsa dancing but I'm afraid my boyfriend and I would maim each other...

Hi Amy,

Everything from ballroom to salsa to line dancing! Our community center has some really great dancing "classes" at affordable rates, and it's loads of fun! You should check out yours, and they probably have salsa! Right now, I have tango on Wednesdays and I enjoy it a lot.

Forte,

You are so lucky you have a community center that offers this! I think the small university town south of me may have something, and probably even something at the university itself. It is an art and ecucation centered school, so I should try there. I think my main worry is if I ever get married, I'd like to know how to waltz propery, and learn swing and salsa for fun. I've always wanted to try it, so I should just go do it I suppose! It's not going to come to me!

Amy,

Yes, our community center has all kinds of good things. Every Friday over the summer it even provides free "drive in" movies, and good ones too. They have aerobics, archery, softball (including adult), and walking track every morning (indoor or outdoor). Most things are free, but some are nominal cost. You should check yours out; you may be surprised at the offerings. Also check your newspaper, as there should be a column on "weeks happenings" or some such, which would tell you things like dancing classes and other activities in your area. Besides the university or college you mention, if you have a community college/jr. college in the community that's often the place for comunity centered activities like dance classes open to the public. Lots of different options, and good luck finding the best in your particular area.
