Hmmmm. That's a good question. Let's see, I'm a definite junkfood addict. Sweets--especially chocolate or ice cream-- will do it to me every time. Once, I start eating these things, I cannot stop! Hi, my name is Akeeyah - and I'm a junkaholic...LOL, but I'm definitely working on it.
It's that damn scale. I weighed the same for so long that I gave in to temptations. I ate whatever I wanted. When being on program I stopped losing weight in Feb. By July I gained 5 pounds. Scared the crap out of me. I refuse to gain back the 55 that I've already lost. Done that too many times. So I started back on Atkins on the same day as Shawna. I didn't do induction, just got back on plan. I haven't cheated once and am down 3 pounds but it still seems like it is not good enough. I need to stay off that scale. Boredom,lack of variety(have a taste for something but can't seem to satisfy it,so eat a bit of everything)....I know there are more reasons,but I can't think of any more atm.
Thanks for your compliment, but I don't think it's about will-power (at least not for me, it's not). In fact, I'm eating a lot better--a whole lot better--these days! Fast food, say of the McDonalds variety, simply can't compare with good food fast. And that often means making it myself! I just don't WANT to eat junk food, or greasy spoon burgers and fries anymore. I've changed, and my food choices have changed, for the better. The only hard part nowadays, is I'm much more particular about what I eat. And when I go out, well, I often come away thinking that I just don't want to eat out. Funny, I know, but I guess I think this way (even in the nicer restaurants): why pay for it THERE, when I can make it better, and if I make it at home...then I CONTROL the quality of what goes into the meal!
Anyway, I find myself going out to do things OTHER THAN eat. The eating part usually is at home, and the fun-and-games part is going out and engaging in some activity or other.
BTW, I hear that Applebies (spelling?) now has 10 menu items following WW (I don't know if they include only the *points* thing, or if they give coherent nutrition info on the menu so non-WW people can choose). And Ruby Tuesday's puts nutrition info on its menu. Red Lobster (that company owns Olive Garden which doesn't give nutrition info) has started providing nutrition info on it's menu for certain *select* "Lighthouse foods* which are menu choices on the light side. That might be useful to know, for those of you who do eat out. If and when I did though, I'd prefer to go to *local* interesting little hole-in-the-wall one-of-a-kind places, rather than big chains. We actually did go out, and enjoy immensely, a German restaurant (the only one in our area, and owned by a family from Eastern Germany--a real find, which has won all kinds of awards). But on those rare occasions, all this has taught me to make good healthy choices which also just happen to taste wonderfully good! Mickie D's just isn't interesting anymore!
That's what I mean, it's all just a matter of "habit change." I'm not sure why it "pains" you to agree, though?
In the old days, it was my habit to "just stop somewhere" and "pick something up" after allowing myself to become too hungry. Now I just plan what I want to eat, and make the calories "worth it." It tastes a whole lot better, and sometimes I think we're starved for flavor, not so much for food. When we get what we want in the first place, the tastes we REALLY REALLY want, then what is there to cheat on anyway? Nothing!
