Hello! I just found this board. My name is Samantha and I am 15. I have been dieting for about 4 weeks now. I have only lost about 21 pounds. Even though you can't tell. I was wondering if I should cut back some more? And how to convince parents that it is OKAY. A friend of mine is eating 500 or less calories a day, and is losing weight. My stepmom says "you have to eat to lose." I hate to tell her, but it's not working. I am currently eating at most 1100 calories. I spread out my food, to make it look like more. I started out at 272 pounds and am at 251 pounds now. I eat three times a day and drink water the rest. Whenever I start to feel hungry, if it is not meal time I drink water or exercise. I exercise 5/6 days a week for about (55-90 minutes per day). I am also using a pedometer and usually it measures anywhere from 9,000-15,000 steps per day. Although I do cheat as I keep it on when I am using my walking exerciser (every other day for that). I would LOVE to be able to eat every other day, or cut my calories down to what my frined is eating, but my stepmom (who is a size 2...and it's loose on her) MAKES me eat everyday. We are constantly arguing, and my dad takes her side. I eat lunch and dinner and then have a snack of around 100 calories. I skip breakfast. It's the only meal my parents are not home for, or I tell them I am going for a walk and just grab something and get rid of it. How low is it safe to go, to lose weight? My stepmom thinks she knows, but she is a size 2 and I hate her for that. I love my stepmom, but just hate that she is SO thin and beautiful. Thanks for any help!

Hello Sam :)
Yes, I wanted to agree with Shawna about talking to your Dr. and making sure what you are doing is OK

I'm very worried about you. You absolutely should never eat fewer than 1200 calories a day. You also shouldn't lose more than 2 pounds per week. You're losing much faster than that and it's not physically possible to keep up that rate of weight loss. And this is DANGEROUS. You could permanantly damage your organs and it will also make it harder to lose weight than eating at least 1200 calories. You will also gain weight faster in the future because your body will be in "starvation mode" and it will try to save every single calorie you eat. It's very important to eat every single day, preferably every 3-4 hours. This is how you keep your metabolism fired up. What you are doing is (in the long run) going to make your weight problem way worse because it's not something that you can keep up over the long term. Really, it sounds like you are developing an eating disorder and that is really scary stuff (trust me, I know).
Have you tried a weight loss strategy like weight watchers? I think they might be very helpful to you. I wish you the best of luck in losing weight, I think it's great that you are so motivated! Just make sure that you are doing it in a way that you won't regret for the rest of your life. I hope to see lots of posts from you in the future!
