I need words of DIScouragement, if y'all will. I have to stop eating my junk food. I have had another epiphany of I cannot gain back all the weight I lost, and I need y'all to discourage me from doing it, and what are some things I can think of when I am about to eat that french fry or that slice of pizza? Shawna!! HELP MEE!! I know that SOME of you will be "We can't make you do it." Well, I don't want to hear that so don't say that to me or i will comeback with a nasty--just give me advice, positive negative advice and thoughts please! Thanks

Sara

Well, I have a couple of ideas. First, I believe you can't lose weight long term if you totally cut out the foods you love, even if they are "junk." So, I'd work on making sure you get a slice of pizza or some fries when you really truly want it. Eat healthy the rest of the time and you're fine. You know that, though. I just know that for me when I label a food as bad, I go crazy for it. The other technique I use to "delay." So, say I'm at home and I'm dying for a cookie, but I'm not really hungry and don't need it. I'll look at the clock and say, "If I still want it in a half hour (or hour or 15 minutes or whatever) then I can have it." The VAST majority of the time I don't still want it, or I find myself wondering if I ate it already or not (kinda funny).

Good luck! I know the crazed junk food monster all to well.

I recently gave my bf orders to slap me flat if I mention wanting to eat fast food.

Also, if you've ever been in a gym and watched the calorie counter on an elliptical machine, notice how SLOW it goes. 10 minutes of all out exercise wiht high resistance on the elliptical burns all of 120 calories. A piece of pizza is what, 800? When I think about how gross I'd feel after eating junk food, and how much exercise I'd need to burn it off, I immediately think twice.

Yep, when I am running I see it takes me 5 miles before I burn off a WW frozen meal, I think LORDY what if it would have been a Big Mac.

Thats when I say to myself if I want something. STEP AWAY FROM THE PIZZA.

I do treat myself once a week to something I have been craving after I weigh in of course on Thursday nights. A treat to keep me on track.

I know you cant reward with food, but at almost 300 #s when I started I obviously love food so I allow myself to have a treat so I can actually stay on program sometimes knowing Thursday night I can have something helps me stay focused the rest of the week.

Here's some good discouragement... (First a bit of background) I know this woman who is all about all natural, whole foods. She doesn't eat anything that has any sort of preservatives, additives, etc. in it. She has done a bunch of research on all that kind of stuff and now uses this analogy when she talks about any type of prepared, pre-packaged, etc. foods. Maybe it could also be effective to help those of us fighting off the junk food cravings!

Ok, now imagine that someone has peed all over the fries and pizza sitting in front of you. It still looks the same, smells the same, and tastes the same...yet it still has been peed on. Do you still want to eat it??

Depending on how bad your cravings are you might have to imagine something worse than pee, LOL!

Seriously though, I totally agree with what Erin said. I don't deny myself stuff I really like to eat, I'll go ahead and have it if I am really wanting it, but at the same time I know what foods are my triggers. For example I can indulge in a slice of pizza once in a while and be totally fine, but sit a bag of chocolate in front of me and I'll eat the whole thing and want to run out and buy more. So, I avoid my trigger foods as much as possible. I also do the waiting 20 or 30 mins thing. I try to get my mind occupied on something else during that time so I'm not just sitting obsessing for 30 minutes about the food I want.

Good luck and hang in there!!

Sara, Shawna and the others have some great advice. I hope that you'll listen to them. I know how hard this is. But think of how much harder it will be if you gain all the weight back and have to start over. I know you can do it if you put your mind to it. I'll be sending you positive vibes! Hang in there :)
