I am intrested in starting a pilates workout. i was wondering if any of you are doing pilates, and which one are you using? i have no idea what is really needed\. i have seen rings , bands, and balls. Just wondering if anyone could help me figure out what would be the best. Thanks ^v^Christie

Hi Christie!

I have Pilates CDs that I bought from the TV... They are the Windsor Pilates set. (OK, who wouldn't like to have a body like spokesmodel Daisy Fuentes??) Anyway, I bought them not only to look better, but I have arthritis in my neck and they seemed like a low impact way for me to get toned. I have gone through the introductory part of the program and just modify it to where I'm comfortable. One nice thing is they have gals on there doing different levels of the same moves, so you can start out slowly! I haven't used any balls or bands, etc., but a friend of mine went to a pool supply store and bought a cheapy, small beach type ball that she uses to exercise with. Her favorite "no-brainer move" is to put the ball between her knees and give it quick, little squeezes. She says she can do this just about anywhere she's sitting - like watching those infomercials for Pilates!! I like the Pilates because it's a lot of stretching, too and...NO ONE LAUGH...but I used to be a pretty good gymnast in middle & high school, and stretching was a big part of my warm up. So it works for me better than all that high impact stuff that jiggles all my "stuff"!!! So now that I've been talking about this, I'm gonna have to go get my CDs out and START using them!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps!!

I know I didn't ask the question, but thanks for the info, Elle! I've always wondered about Pilates and whether or not I could do it. Maybe I'll pick up the tapes and give it a try :)

I think for a beginner try to look for a DVD that only requires a mat.

edited to say: I do a Level 4 (advanced) Stott pilates DVD and you really don't need anything else but a mat to get an @ss kicking workout!

Thank you to everyone who replied! I think I am going to go with the Winsor Pilates. FYI: I looked for information on WP on the offical website and also at one of the local sports stores here, and if you order it on-line you get so much MORE stuff then if you were just to go to the store and buy it. Just thought you'd like to know if anyone was intrested. Thanks again you guys! ^v^ Christie

P.S. To Spamsammich: Do you think they could ever come out with SlipknotPilates? Maybe we could and call one of the moves "MoshMat." Just a thought...^v^

heh, I haven't seen Slipknot live since 2001 (boohoo) but after one of their shows my neck always hurts for days from headbanging!

And really, I wish more aerobics CDs had more metal on it; the best I can do so far is 80's rock (I'm an aerobics instructor and do NOT want to hear pop while working)

80's rock.......OK are we talking about Skidrow (Racheal an that yummy nose ring) or are we talking about Winger (big freaky tooth guy?) Maybe it's not so bad? You teach the stuff? Good god, you wouldn't see me out there i'd fall over and drop death of a heart attack! Ack! Did you lose a bunch of weight and thats what you do now? I'm not trying to be nosie, just wondering. =) ^v^Christie

stuff like Van Halen and I've seen some CD's with Guns N'Roses (who I love) on it.

I did lose a bit of weight...but not 100+ pounds...I just like to hang out here :) will email you about it.
