ok, so I start this diet last Monday. I'm doing really good about what i do and don't eat. no more than 1700 calories a day, and I eat things that make me feel full so it dosen't really bother me. So Monday I did about 10 minutes with my weights, and Tuesday I did a 2 hour walk. But let me tell you what me and all of my stupidness did yesterday. Tuesday I got a weight training video put out by Denise Austin. I was thinking ah, this will be wicked awsome for my arms! (I hate the shape of my arms.) So i take the video home and do it Wednesday. All 37 minutes at my own pace. I didn't really feel that i had pushed myself THAT much when I was doing it. It had everything from crunches to squats. Well, it is now 7:30am and i wouldn't even be awake right now if it wasn't for the mass amount of muscle pain. I pulled the muscles in the top of my right leg, my back, and my lower abs, but the one that is really killing me is right under my chest where my ribs start to part. It fills like someone has punched me right betwen the chest. It hurts to lay down, it hurts to stand up. I feel SOOOOO STUPID! and now i am all mad because I know I won't be able to exercise. Well, I WILL try to do some walking. (My leg is not THAT bad.) So thank you for listening to my stupid exercise move of the day, and if anyone knows what to do for a pulled upper ab muscle, PLEASSE for the love of God tell me what to do! AAACCCK! ^v^Christie

Are you sure it's pulled and not just super sore? The instructor whose classes I go to all the time say it's incredibly hard to pull a muscle - especially an ab muscle.

Stretching really is the best way to prevent muscle soreness, but you must do it immediately after the workout, at the very least before going to sleep that night.

I'm going to go by the assumption that you're just super sore and give you the recommendation that you NOT "take it easy". As difficult as it seems, getting out and moving your body, even if it's just for a walk, will help loosen things up. If you have access to one, sitting in a hot tub and stretching will feel great.

Next time: GO SLOWLY! :)

PS: After my first Slipknot concert, I looked and felt like I had been run over by a steamroller.

I believe you could be right, all i know is that between my chest hurts so bad I want a muscle relaxer. I'm am the type of person who will NOT take any drugs unless i am REALLY in pain. This crap just really hurts. I told my boyfriend this morning that i think it would hurt less having another c-section. I'll just tell everyone Slipknot came to my house and beat me up lastnight. OOOOOOUCH!

Hi Christie,

Well, start by not calling yourself names! Negative self-messages do no good, and they can harm you. It builds up, incrementally, and can really dash your self-esteem from the inside out. So please, don't ever say of yourself "I am soooo stupid." Don't hurt yourself like that.

As for the "diet," just take your meals one at a time, one day at a time and do your best to make good food choices. Same goes with any kind of exercise you WANT to do. The important thing is just to get some extra movement into every day. If you're hurting yourself with some exercise, then maybe it's not the best one for you right now. Pick something you want to do, and do it, and enjoy yourself along the way.

Just be good to yourself, and you'll get there.

I agree with the others. You probably just overdid it, and haven't actually pulled a muscle. Working out three days in a row when you're relatively new to exercise can result in some soreness. It's a bummer, but it will get better as your fitness level improves. It's nothing that an Aleve, a light walk, and a warm shower won't help. You'll feel better tomorrow, and by Saturday shouldn't be sore at all.

The guys in Slipknot are super sweeties - met them backstage a few years ago. Although the VERY FIRST time I heard some of their music and saw pictures I thought they were baby eaters.

Thank you Shawna and everyone else. I did do an hour and 15 minute walk yesterday so i didn't just lay around and do nothing, but today I just can not get going. I wanted to walk but it looks really crappy outside like it is going to rain. I don't want to drive anywhere, and all I have is my trusty Denise Austin break your leg and crack your sternum weight training video. =( ahhhhhhh...... Well, Maybe before it gets TOO bad I will put my clothes on, get the stroller and MAKE myself got walking. The threat of rain will help me pick up my pace. ^v^Christie

No...ha ha ha. i did a workout tape and the next day i said it felt like the SK guys came to my house and beat me up. hee hee hee. however, one time I did get all caught up in a Pantera mosh pit (awhile back) and i was REALLY hurting! It was wild, but that was back in my youthful, simi-chunky, not fat days. =( i don't even go to concerts anymore because of the way I look. It is sad, but I still have my fun memories. ^v^Christie
