O.k maybe some of you know about my late night Reese's Pieces incounter last night. Well, this is my question. I am counting calories, and it says you can have 50 pieces and it is 200 calories (that's sounds yummy to me.) Now just because it has 200 calories, and i have added into my less than 1700 cal a day "diet" does that make it ok? Do i have to be looking at the fat too? Because it says 90 of those cals are from fat, and that has got me thinking. Is my E.T. snack ok, (for once in a while) or should I stay away from this yummy nummy goodness like the plage? Thank you for all responces, and please don't be too hard on me. ^v^Christie

Hi Christie.

First and foremost I think it all depends on what "plan" you are on.

This is what I do and you can take away from it what you will. :)

I am on WEight Watchers and get weighed in every Thursday. What I find to be what works best for me is I eat one meal after my meeting that is not OP. I limit myself to that one meal or treat a week and am very strict about plan all week long. I workout quite a bit as well so I think in my case it has balanced out a little, I know you are not supposed to reward yourself with food however I dont think I would have made it this long OP if I didnt do this once a week.

It honestly gives me something to look forward to.

Also what is nuts the first week I did this I think we had Mc Donalds and we had been OP for 6 weeks and it tasted SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than it ever had.

Funny how that works.

Hi Christie:
I think you are doing great by remembering to count those calories and keep an eye on your intake.

I think it's ok to have once in a while as long as you're not overdoing it. If you can have a small amount and not go overboard, then I say go for it, as long as you can fit it in your plan. If you can't stop until you've eaten an entire 1 pound bag, then maybe you need to avoid them for awhile until you can get that under control. But I think that just about anything in moderation is ok. In my opinion, if we make foods "forbidden" then we want them even more. Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone! Now i don't feel so worried. And yes they were good. I really thought about eatting them. I planned on it for two days (after my goof ball boyfriend brought them into the house!) It was a "movie snack" and i know something like unbuttered popcorn WOULD have been better, but I REALLY wanted them! Is it just me or do i sound like a drug addict??? OMG I DO!! LOL!! "JUST ONE FIX!!!" Ahhhh...I got to shut up. i am the goof ball now! Thanks again! ^v^Christie "Talk me down, man! Talk me down!"

There are a lot of Diet Puritans out there who say that the only way to be successful at weight loss is to abstain from anything with a gram of refined sugar, and eat only non-processed, organic whole foods (preferably those you've grown yourself).

I say screw 'em.

The last year of my life would have been pretty darn miserable if I totally avoided foods that I like, including chocolate. In fact, I know I wouldn't have been able to lose weight so successfully if I followed the "advice" some people offer on how to eat to lose weight. I would have suffered intense cravings and been prone to uncontrolled binges or late-night fast food runs, and I would have given up trying to eat well, and thus derailed my diet efforts.

Honestly, I think most people would be shocked at what I eat on a semi-regular basis (I have a pretty serious peanut M & M's addiction. Like, a bag day almost. Seriously.), and yet I have been losing weight consistently. Why? Because I don't binge on the junk food, and I am conscious of how much I am actually eating. Sometimes knowing that a certain food will put me over my calorie limit for the day is enough to make me stop and reconsider.

If you can eat some Reese's pieces and stay within your calorie limit for the day, and most importantly, not feel the need to BINGE on the candy every day, then don't freak out about it. IMO, there's nothing more destructive than telling someone trying to lose weight that something she can EASILY enjoy in moderation is verboten FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing great!

Jess, who's thinking that some Reese's pieces sound pretty darn good right about now. ;-)

Christie,

Erase the word "cheater" from your vocab. Are you a cheater? Well, you decide. If you counted that 200 calories into your daily limit (which you've set for yourself), then have you also set for yourself a certain number of fat grams over which you will not go? Personally, I pay attention to both calories and fat grams, and I don't eat much sugar but (as luck would have it) I had 50 reeses pieces yesterday too. And it worked into my total (both calories and fat) for the day. Now it wouldn't fit into my plans today, and if I want to eat healthy then packaged stuff....ANY packaged stuff (and that would include reeses) just isn't part of my normal everyday life. But you have to decide for yourself what you count, and how much of whatever is beyond the limits you, personally, have set for yourself. You decide....were you a "big cheater" or were you right on target (as you wanted to be) for the day? Anyway, even if you had more fat grams than you wanted on that particular day, the trick is to get it back into bounds the next. Right?! Yesterday is gone. You can't do anything about that now, except to make sure it all balances out in the end. Good luck.

Actually, they came in a BIG bag (not a box) that my son bought at Sam's Club (abt. $4), and offered to share one serving. And they were good...not great, but good.

I agree. It's better to have something in moderation, than to hold off and lose control later...I myself have provided SEVERAL examples of what NOT to do regarding cake, donuts, cadbury Eggs,,,,,

Once a week, I have five chocolate chip-cranberry cookies and two cups of coffee for dinner. Thats it. No veggies, no 'real' food. I get what I want, and there is no damage. I look forward to it every week, and I might have another treat or two during the week, but that's it. For instance, I went out to Pizzaria Uno's with girlfriend and seven year old daughter. We each had a veggie burger with veggies on the side. Nicole (daughter of friend)was seriously Jonesin' for dessert, so I let her pick because I would be splitting it with her.

What does the child pick ????

The 15-pound peanut butter cup thing with the ice cream on top. If you have been to Uno's in the past year, you have seen this thing. I am scared of it. WELL. Needless to say it was the most disgustingly delicious chocolate PB thing I have ever had - the choc was neither milk or dark, there was a creamy layer of PB underneath, with an OREO CRUST on the bottom.

Yeah, it SUCKED.

*sigh*
