Tomorrow I start back to work (a brand new job!!) after being out of work for 6 weeks. While the break(?) was nice(?), I'm ready to go back. The main reason - other than the $$ - is that I'm not disciplined enough to stay out of the fridge on a regular basis. My weight loss is not progressing as well as I think it could. While home, I have been the only one doing all of the shopping, cooking, food related stuff, and I think I need a break!! My DH and my DTD (darling twin daughters) all know how to cook, so I think I'm going to re-institute the old cooking schedule. I will cook 3 nights a week and they can each take a night and the 7th night it's a "feed you own dang self" night!!! =D
So, with my new lack of available "free" time, I will probably post a bit less, but I'll still be around for sure! You all are a great source of support, advice and even humor, when I need it the most!! (almost peed myself watching the freakin' squirrel cartoon!!)
I would like to get into the habit of packing my lunches instead of eating out or doing the vending machine thing (which leaves me broke!) so I bought all the lunch packing supplies yesterday. I'll see how that works!!
If any of you work away from home folks have any suggestions on this, I'd like to hear them!
Thanks!! Elle

You sound like you're ready and rearing to go! I wish you all the best on your new job. I'm on summer vacation myself and I will be starting back when school opens the day after Labor Day. (Students come back one week later) You are absolutely right about having more control over eating while at work. It is so hard for me to stay focused on eating healthy while at home, but I am getting better. The only suggestion that I could make to you is to plan your lunches so that you will always have something healthy to eat, and it's o.k. to treat yourself out to lunch once in awhile. We need to do this to keep from getting bored with our meals. But, it seems as if you have everything well thought out. Have a good day tomorrow, Elle!

Well, today was a pretty good day as far as the new job goes. Everyone seems very nice and likes to have a good time while working. But my lunch plans... well, the broker took us all out to lunch at Chili's. (company expense!) I tried to be good. I had iced tea with lemon (I don't like sweetened tea) and ordered the margarita chicken, but didn't finish about 1/3 of my food. Of course, that may have had something to do with all the chips and salsa I ate! Whaaaaaaaaa!!!! But I guess for the first day, it was acceptable. There is a microwave and fridge in the kitchen at the office, so bringing in my own food most days will be possible.
Thanks for asking!! Have a nice day!!

Yes, well I hope the plan catches on!! DH made dinner tonight, so that was a big help. (plus he brought me a dozen roses home last night!) I was suffering from serious brain-drain after my first day, today. Not that I was overworked or anything, but just from meeting everyone and trying to remember who does what, and I did do a few minor tasks. Oh, my job is working as a receptionist/office asst. for a new home builder. I have backgrounds in real estate and new construction warranty management, so I didn't feel like I went in totally blind!! I have plans to move up, so this entry level gig (I hope) is just my foot in the door, so to speak. And yes, I do plan to put the crockpot to good use!!
One other thing, my office is on the 3rd floor of an outdoor complex (I step into the elevator from the ground floor courtyard/park area and exit out onto the 3rd floor outdoor walkway/balcony - by the tree tops!) But I figure I could get some exercise using the stairs instead!!
Talk to ya later!

Congrats on your first day back to work! Since I've been focussing on losing weight I find it so much easier to bring my lunch with me to work along with a variety of snacks - fruit, bag of carrots, yogurt, etc. I also leave my wallet at home!! Otherwise it's too easy to join the crew for lunch at some place I shouldn't go.
And who knows, when you get to know your co-workers you may be able to schedule in a group walk at lunch time. A few of us started this week and boy can I feel a difference aleady (I already walk back and forth to work which takes 30 minutes each way).
Hope these tips are helpful and good luck with the new job!
Cheers
Lisa
Well, I suppose if I assume things will go astray, I won't be as disappointed when they (inevitably) do!! But I'm not going to push it!! One day at a time for me... But today was pretty fun, as work days go. And I have plans to bring my lunch most of the time, so hopefully that will keep me on track.
See ya 'round!!

Thanks for the ideas! I do plan to bring lunch as often as I can. I didn't notice the dreaded vending machines that tend to rob me blind at lunch, but they have a pretty decent kitchen and once a month they stock it with a trip to Costco...and they take requests...so I'll have to be careful if I go in there!! I spied mega packs of Pringles and flats of sodas as I passed by today and it's all free to employees. Also, the MAJOR temptation is the gigantic basket of candy/chocolates (and I mean the GOOD kind) sitting on the counter in front of what will be my desk. I may have to move that because I LOVE chocolate and it is literally within arms length (or should I say, within reach of my chocolate-grubbing paws!!) Apparently, they have this there for the construction guys that frequent the office. GEEZ!
Did I mention I LOVE CHOCOLATE?!?!?!?
