Well, your thoughts and advice has gotten me through another week.

I was down 2 #s this week and I heard her say "down 2" and I said PHUCK! Really loud. Everyone just turned around. (Yes I have a language problem) I wanted her to say 3.5# because that would have taken me to 50 total, but I am ok where I am at and I will hopefully get there this week. This is a good loss and I needed it to boot my moral again.

I plan on changing my workout a little bit this week again my knee is giving me hell from all the running and I need to slow down if I want to run this marathon.

I also read an article about running shoes. They say (who is they anyway) that a runner should change their running shoes every 300 miles run. Well this is hilarious since I average 15 miles (6 days per week) so every month I would be buying a new pair. Ummm I like shoe shopping BUT PLEASE!

On to the next article I read. About binge eating. This was in the current issue of Fitness, I treat myself to one meal a week that is something I have been wanting or dreaming about (yes when I actually get some sleep I dream about FOOD). The article says that one night of a "binge" is not a horrible thing that you do little damage to you're program. For me its the only thing thats keeping me on track. I love certain foods and I treat myself after I have my WW meeting to one meal. I know a reward is not supposed to be about food, but it really makes me work harder throughout the week.

Just my two cents !

Jodi - I am glad you are feeling a bit better. Two pounds lost in one week is great, it is a lot better than 2lbs gained! You really run 15 miles a day? I think I would be lying on the ground crying after a mile run. When I was down to 240 last year I did walk (VERY briskly) about 3 miles a day, but that was all I could do. Unfortunately with my knee the way it is, I doubt I could run even 100 ft. I am starting this weekend with the walking again, but since I have gained weight I am not going to be able to do as much. I am going to push myself though.

I think it is a great idea to treat yourself. When my friend and I were dieting together we used to treat ourselves once a week also.

Congrats! Keep up the good work.

Halolesscowgirl,

I'm a runner--25 miles/week. Check your math on the running shoes. If you are averaging 15miles/week, you are covering 60 miles/month. At that rate, you are good for new running shoes about every 6 months.

I am at 122lbs at 5'6" so I use my shoes a little longer (about 600 miles) and change them every 6 months.

Only wear your running shoes to run in. And, save the last pair when you get the new ones since they are still good for walking and every day use--just less effective when trying to absorb the shock of running. I'm impressed that you're training for a marathon. That's too many miles for me! Good Luck.

>>The article says that one night of a "binge" is not a horrible thing that you do little damage to you're program.<<

I've heard of articles like that before, but the question I always have is "why?" I mean, if the idea is to develop new healthful eating patterns, then why would anyone want to binge in the first place. Or why would the article writers think counseling someone who is trying to learn new ways to revert to the old, a good idea. I don't get it, really.

Good luck to you, though. It's good to hear things are working well for you.

My math was correct, perhaps I posted wrong. At this point I run 15 miles 6 days per week.

I used to run ten miles a day and I am running more now for this marathon in October. Its tough to be quite honest. My weight is a big factor at 245 I am still a very big girl. But being a runner in past may be helping my goals now.

As far as the binge eating is concerned, I think articles are written on this topic and that people suggest it because its reality. Its impossible to stay away from EVERYTHING unhealthy. There is no way to have a life that is is a normal setting and be able to make the BEST choices all of the time.

I also feel that there is some merit to the topic of the articles because I think that guilt is one of the common underlying tones for weight gain. I think if you allow yourself one meal a week or whatever choice you make to eat something you enjoy, not only are you rewarding yourself but you are also allowing yourself to bring some things back into your life and learning control. I have been able to get right back on track and have that one treat during the week and I look forward to it.

For me it helps me stay on program and I am not sure its so much about the "health" aspect more than you're mental well being of being able to heave a "release".

It equates the same in my books as a day off work.

I could be way out of line here but thats how I feel.

Hi,

I didn't comment on the running. I hadn't noticed that. Congrats.

You say,

>>Its impossible to stay away from EVERYTHING unhealthy. There is no way to have a life that is is a normal setting and be able to make the BEST choices all of the time.<<

Staying away from "everything unhealthy" and "binging" (which is what you said the article is about) are two entirely different things, though. I do think it's possible to enjoy good healthy choices on a daily basis. But I will concede, perhaps not 100% of the choices a person makes every day HAVE to be tremendously healthy ones. But there's a big difference, for example, when someone a while back mentioned eating one serving of Reeses chocolate chips (not necessarily a good choice, and 200 calories worth) versus someone setting aside one day a week (or whatever) to binge eat on anything and everything. In other words, while not 100 percent of what a person eats every day of their life has to be (or is) only the healthy stuff, I don't see how that's related to, or justifies, binge eating. ?? I just don't get articles like that, as I said. But it is interesting to have this discussion.

For me, personally, it's been about making conscious choices regarding food. About eating, and enjoying, the healthy stuff. But that's not to say, now that things are under control, that a little dessert on rare occasions is out of the question. It's not. But it is to say that BINGE eating is not something I'd do, or would consider healthy for anyone, not even an underweight person. Binge eating can lead to things far too dangerous to consider, for me at least. I think it's not such a hot idea, personally.

(I have to go to work now, but can continue later if you like. Enjoyed the discussion.)

You are the only one who knows what is best for you, and it seems to me like you are doing a great job. You should be proud that you can run 15 miles a day, I know when I was that weight I couldn't. Then again I always hated running. LOL

Keep up the good work! It sounds to me like you are doing what you need to be to get into shape.

Keep up the great work, Jodi! I have to tell you, I am extremely impressed with your running 15 miles a day and training for a marathon! Where are you planning to run? I live in the Boston area and we have the Boston Marathon. It's a huge event here every April.

I see nothing wrong with having a night where you can have whatever you want eating wise. I think it's great that it's kept you motivated and keeps you on track the rest of the week. Keep up the good work :)

I am running it in October.

I am looking forward to it, I know I may not finish it but thats not the point. The point is I signed up and I am going to try it.

I never really "liked" running. Like is such a strong word LOL.

Honestly now it takes my mind off things and I enjoy the solace it brings me.

I dont enjoy the leg cramps and the sweat or the fact that I need short suspenders since mine are always falling down and I end up showing off my sponge bob squarepants underware to the GQ man behind me on the treadmill but I digress.

In the end it will be worth it.
