(2) I have been overweight my whole life (3) when I find the right guy I want to be able to start a family. I am not having children until I am skinny!!! (4) to be healthy.

Linda and I are from MA as well. Linda is still there, I live in NH. Welcome!
Amy
I am not doing any specific "diet". Just trying to eat healthier, smaller portions and drinking water, water, water!! Did Atkins for 2 months last summer and lost almost 20 pounds, but couldn't choke down anymore meat!! Got tired of hubby asking what kind of meat we were having for din-din!!
Amy, I also have a Gazelle from Tony "the screamer" Little. What a goof ball! Can you say "Valium"??? Anyway, I like the Gazelle for a couple reasons... I can do mindless exercise while watching TV and it's easy on my joints. None of that bone jarring stuff that aggravates my arthritic neck!!! (doggone teenage gymnastics!!)
Welcome Newbies!!!!!!!!!!

My name is Lisa, I'm 33 years old and I live in beautiful Alberta, Canada - gotta lurve those Rocky Mountains. I've been coming here for just over a month now and thoroughly enjoy the posts and support - Amy I adore your humour and attitude!
For me it isn't so much losing weight but getting fit again. I've always been the active fat girl but this past year I was stuck in an awful job and became an emotional eater - for every emotion out there! So I quit the job, got a new/improved one and decided it was time for a change - especially as for the first time ever my blood pressure was very high...I am normally the pinnacle of health to be honest.
As for weight...well the last time I weighed myself I was approximately 232 lbs but if any of you ever saw one of my first posts I have a thing against scales so I've been measuring myself. When I started my waist was at 42 inches and now I'm down to 41 - not a huge improvement but it's something. Other body parts have been shrinking more significantly but I won't bore with that.
My plan is simple: eat well, eat less, and exercise more. I follow the Canadian Food Guide as close as possible, walk back and forth to work everyday, climb a HUGE set of stairs 2 to 3 times a week (there are 167 steps), and just started a belly dancing tape (I love it!). Oh and every other night I do my weights, sit-ups and push-ups.
And my job? I work at a museum as an assistant researcher for programs and exhibition development - offers a very creative outlet for me and my boss is the COOLEST woman ever.
So there we are!
Cheers!
Lisa
P.S. I don't have a goal in mind just yet other than I'm getting into my size 14 jeans by Christmas (I'm a snug 16 right now) - after that, we'll see.
My husband left 15 years ago, and I was a single mom, and pretty much totally neglected myself while I raised the kids, worked, and went to school. Since the kids have been out on their own, I have been in a pretty bad slump--I haven't known what to do with myself. Unfortunately, I ate--a LOT.
I am trying to change all that. I'm dieting (mostly following South Beach), and I have lost 41 pounds since May. Maybe I shouldn't admit it, but I'm also going to a therapist to try to figure out how to get back to the old me!
I hope everyone on this board has a healthy, positive week!
