I am really looking for a support group to support me and help motivate me to actually STAY on this diet or change my way of life to a healthier lifestyle.
What works best for me is counting calories so that I can still pretty much eat what I want in moderation. My hubby has been very supportive and has been walking with me every night. My feet, ankles and legs hurt so bad when I walk but I did manage to walk at least a mile 4 nights this week within 20 to 25 minutes each time. I know this isn't much but hopefully as the weeks progress my feet, ankles and legs will get stronger and I will be able to add to it. Next week I am going to try for 1 1/2 miles a day for 4 days. Wish me luck!
I wasn't sure how to "join" the board and looked for a post that would give me some info but couldn't seem to find one (I am easily confused - lol)
So I just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself - so Hi!
Jana

Welcome aboard.
I am kind of new here too its nice to see a new "face".
Its great that your husband is supportive some arent.
I am sure you will build your strength with your walking. I started at the gym with 30 mins of cardio and I am up to running and an hour of cardio.
So I am sure you will get there.
Good luck in your journey!

Keep up with the great work on walking - the best of all exercises! You'll find that after a couple of weeks it will get easier and you will be able to push yourself a little harder.
The people here are great for keeping you motivated and giving you a giggle when you need it.
See ya' around!
Cheers

I have been following the South Beach plan more or less--but mostly, I have just about eliminated processed food. I am focusing on lean protein, lots of fresh vegetables, and healthy fats. I also bought the SuperFoods book, where the author list what he thinks are the healthiest foods, and I try to incorporate them into my diet as much as possible.
The list includes wild salmon, blueberries, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, beans, walnuts, soy, oats, oranges, pumpkin, tea, turkey, and yogurt.
I feel like I have used food my whole life to relieve anxiety and stress, to numb myself, to reward myself--a poor attempt to heal my spirit. But, I've finally started using it to heal my body. What a difference that has made.
I don't know exactly what made the lightbulb go off in my head, but I'm grateful for it, and I never want to go back to the old way of thinking/eating. I wish you all the success in the world.
