Okay, yesterday, I did a heck of a lot of walking but at the same time I had a 'hardy' lunch with a desert (opps) and I bought a deadly walnut, peacan bread with two different types of cheese - haven't eaten any of the cheese yet but the bread is to die for. To compensate for my over indulgence at lunch I ate a very small supper but still....I need to walk off that pie...yummmm pie.
I normally take Sunday's off from aerobic activity and focus just on strength training but after yesterday - heck who am I kidding - last week, I have to do this to feel better.
My oatmeal is on the stove cooking away - none of that sugary fake oatmeal for me kids I want that stick-to-your-ribs kind where the spoon stands upright in the bowl. I haven't made my coffee yet as I know once that's done I'm not going anywhere. I've brushed my teeth, washed my face and am sporting my workout ware but I keep looking out the patio doors and see the raining pouring down and the trees moving from the cold winds.
I can do this...I have to do this...I will do this.
Okay...off I go!
Thanks to whomever bothered to read this!

As small as this may seem to some I felt a proud sense of achievement when I got home. But I tell ya' there's nothing better then getting a nice hot shower, pulling on comfy clothes and grabbing a hot cup of coffee after walking an hour in the cold rain.
Then again...what the heck am I complaining about? I live in Canada for goodness sake - how much more whinging am I going to do when it's -20 degrees outside? Sigh...better place that order for new thermal mitts, hats and socks now.
But ladies, let me tell you - there is no better feeling than when you have more strength and determination as a fat walker than the skinny little runners who couldn't face the rain.
:D

That was a **fun** post to read. I don't know how I missed it yesterday (probably because I was only online for 10 minutes) but I'm sure glad I saw it this afternoon. It gave me a much needed chuckle.
I don't know what kind of diet you're on (whether Atkins or other, or just commonsense like me) but whatever it is...it really doesn't sound so bad. It sounds like you're doing a fine job, in the balancing act of keeping foods/exercise/et al in balance.
Regular spoon-sticking-up oatmeal is a great food: nothing wrong with that. Super healthy, and it DOES stick to the ribs, help a person go through the entire morning without getting hungry at all.
I love good cheese too! And nothing wrong with getting a really lucious piece of cheese. In fact, I buy the best I can...and then really savour the one serving size as part of a healthy diet. The bread? Can I have a piece??? ;) All that works into a healthy balancing act, so you go girl!
Rain and walking....well, I grew up in Seattle so unless I wanted to stay inside most of the year...if I wanted to get someplace, it meant walking in the rain to do it, and often a chilly rain. The bluest skies you've ever seen are ONLY in Seattle for a few short summer months, and then IT IS heavenly (temp wise, and no rain). Otherwise, the place gives "slickers" a whole new meaning, I swear.
Anyway, one suggestion there. Walk inside, at a shopping mall. Give shop til you drop a whole new meaning! Or go to your community center (I love those, and we have an indoor and outdoor track at ours and scheduled walking groups each day. Check yours out! Otherwise, down the slicker and hop to it...I **KNOW** you can ;)

I really did enjoy the walk after...I just needed to convince myself to get my butt out there.
As for my 'diet'...well sorry everyone but I don't believe in diets for myself. I had to make a lifestyle choice that I knew I could live with forever. For the most part I just eat wisely (fruits, veggies, and try to avoid processed foods - I try to follow the Canadian Food Guide), and most importantly for me, I don't eat anything past 7:00 p.m.
I do tend to take one day off a week but even then I'm very aware of what I'm eating - I won't go overboard. The results been somewhat slower than diets but I figure it took me a long time to get this way it will take a bit of time to reclaim myself. But boy, after a month I can really feel the difference (I still don't have a scale so I'm measuring myself...and I'm down an inch just about everywhere)and because of that I will treat myself occassionally but I keep it all in check.
The community centre tip is a great idea and I may have to check that out when the dreaded winter comes along. Calgary is a beautiful city but darn it gets cold here.
Cheers!

PS I lived in Scotland for awhile and learned to LOVE real oatmeal...it was divine.
(I lived in Edmonton myself over 20 years ago)
