Looking for motivation

It's Sunday morning, cold and raining - hard! I'm trying desperately to work up the motivation to do an hour long hike along the river that includes a HUGE hill. So don't mind me but I'm going to mutter for a bit in a poor attempt to convince myself to go. Sorry, I live alone so you all have to deal with this.

Okay, yesterday, I did a heck of a lot of walking but at the same time I had a 'hardy' lunch with a desert (opps) and I bought a deadly walnut, peacan bread with two different types of cheese - haven't eaten any of the cheese yet but the bread is to die for. To compensate for my over indulgence at lunch I ate a very small supper but still....I need to walk off that pie...yummmm pie.

I normally take Sunday's off from aerobic activity and focus just on strength training but after yesterday - heck who am I kidding - last week, I have to do this to feel better.

My oatmeal is on the stove cooking away - none of that sugary fake oatmeal for me kids I want that stick-to-your-ribs kind where the spoon stands upright in the bowl. I haven't made my coffee yet as I know once that's done I'm not going anywhere. I've brushed my teeth, washed my face and am sporting my workout ware but I keep looking out the patio doors and see the raining pouring down and the trees moving from the cold winds.

I can do this...I have to do this...I will do this.

Okay...off I go!

Thanks to whomever bothered to read this!

Hi Lisa,

That not eating after 7pm is a good tip, and I try to follow it too. All on the theory that I'm less likely to burn those calories off before bedtime. Of course, in the past couple weeks, it's been hard to adhere to. But in due time, things will even out in our lives I'm sure.

The oatmeal, well I have some Irish oatmeal in the round can (steel cut) in my pantry, and I love it.

I've never been to Scotland, and I've never been to Calgary. I have been into Canada through Windsor, Ontario and then back down at New York though. I'd love to see your area of the world.

It sounds like we probably have a lot in common, regarding our *dieting* (if you want to call it that). I just try to count calories and fat grams, get in a little movement every day, and I step on the scale each morning (just to write it down). Slow and steady wins the race, and I've been at this for a year or so, and have lost over 100 lbs but have a bit more to go. You'll get there too.

Wow! 100 lbs? That's fantastic! Congratulations and thank you for the support!

I've yet to set a goal weight for myself and maybe one day I will but right now I really want to be healthy and fit. There's a set of stairs near my home that I climb 2 or 3 times a week that has 167 steps (I count to keep myself breathing) and I guess right now my goal is to make it up those steps two times in a row.

Cheers!

Lisa

P.S. Sorry in the delay responding but we had an electrical storm the beginning of the week and I had to get my motherboard replaced - thank heavens for warranties!

Hi Cindy,

I hope you did get out for that walk after! For some unknown reason, as difficult as I find it dragging myself out into that rain there is something so invigorating about it at the same time. Not to sound corny, but it makes me feel alive and refreshed when I feel that rain on my face.

Cheers!

Oy Alberta winters are brutal! But when I'm walking to work and it's -30, it's like all of us folks who braved it share something - as we walk past each other and nod there is a certain commaradary and level of respect. Of course I have several layers of clothing on and convince myself I've lost a dozen or more brain cells each time I do it- but it's cool to know I did it when others couldn't.

And, with Calgary being one of the sunniest places in Canada it makes the cold that much easier to deal with!

Cheers!

Lisa
