I admire all of you....

...yes really, all of you. I was just reading the Doritos thread and it just struck me how much I admire everyone here.

I agree on the moderation thing. The problem with all this low fat/low carb/low whatever stuff is that people are fooled into thinking they can then consume more of those things and it won't matter to their diet (WOE.) Fortunately most everyone HERE knows that this is a myth. Something may be low fat, but it'll be high something else, same with low carb stuff. It's so nice to read about people who understand there is more in a food than carbs or sugar or fat.

Anyway, I also admire everyone because when you get this many people together there are always going to be a few people who don't get along with a few other people. But, despite those differences, when someone has something bad going on in their life (or something good!) then everyone seems to come together. I'm referring specifically right now to Forte and her daughter and granddaughter. I'm a mom, too, and while I don't particularly agree with much of what Forte has to say, my thoughts are winging out to her and her familiy right now, just as many of you are praying for them as well.

It takes strong people to put aside their disagreements in times of trouble (and as I said, in times of joy) to stretch out a helping hand or share joy. You're all strong people!

Another reason I admire you all is because you're doing what I can't do. I don't have alot of weight to lose... last summer I went on WW because of Shawna - she motivated me without saying a word. I lost 10 pounds... then I got tired of counting and watching and blah yadda, and since then I've gained 20!! I hate it! But I can't seem to get myself back to *moderation*... I eat crap like popcorn (not TOO bad) and goldfish and fast food, and drink soda all the live long day (yeah the soda is my biggest problem) and I just don't have the um... what's the word? Can't think of it but you know what I mean I think. I just can't seem to get back on track. Eating crappy is so much easier than eating healthy!

Well, you all have lots of admirable qualities and I just wanted to point out a few (:

I know it can be difficult to be a Southerner living up north, just like it can be hard bing a Yankee in the deep south. A bit of culture shock. But I hope you get a chance to get out there and explore, and enjoy your time in Michigan. I think it's a pretty State (not as pretty as Florida, I think, but beautiful in it's own way). Do they still have Elias Brothers Big Boy up there? If yes, now that can put Waffle House to shame any day of the week, so pick a day for a diet splurge and go in THAT place.

You say,

>>Sorry Forte here is where we clash just a little bit. I am guilty of not being able to cut out all foods that I once loved and eat right every minute of the day. Thats why I am happy with Weight Watchers I can still incorporate the foods I love in smaller portions and feel this is more of a lifestyle change than a diet.<<

Well, maybe we don't differ as much as you think. Why do you think I'm always going on about the food channel on television!:) You see, I just do it a little differently. I've found, by watching some of that, that I can have-my-cake-and-eat-it-too. In other words, I've tried to learn new ways to cut the fat, keep the taste, and either make old favorites new ways, or just find some new favorites. It is true, however, that I try not to eat junk food (meaning packaged stuff, boxed cookies chips etc). So that might be a little difference we have. Just put it this way: if I want a chocolate chip cookie, I nix the Chips Ahoy and make a small batch of something less fattening (if I can find a unique recipe), eat a couple and give the rest away! My neighbors are very well fed!!

Forte and Hippo,

My aunt is a nurse, I am a special education teacher, not a doctor, but I do know that if I had a child I would not let them discharge them three months early, only to return to the hospital. I watch a lot of medical shows on babies and I have never, NEVER, seen them released this early. Babies born this early typically don't have fully developed lungs and need lots of supervision and need to be able to bottle feed to be out home. What was the doctor thinking?! This is why your granddaughter was airlifted, just makes sense to me. I just think that the doctors did your granddaughter and daughter an injustice and I didn't mean to come acrossed as cold. I would get another doctor and go for malpractice on the other doctor. Just my opinion! Hate to see any child in trouble, especially so young already.

You misunderstand.

1. The baby was airlifted to another hospital and *remains* in intensive care.

2. The mother stayed hospitalized over one week, then was discharged

3. Mother and child both have received *excellent* medical care.
