A sequel, for newbies

There are other things, which I've mentioned here from time to time, and some oldtimers have poo-pooed the ideas...but I'm living proof that these work, as each idea has helped me lose weight and keep centered. A couple of those ideas, to pass along to newbies: (1) go to your bookstore, or library, or both, and spend some time browsing healthy eating cookbooks. And/or watch the cooking channel (television) when you can--Kathleen Daelamen's "Cooking Thin" is just one program that can give you fresh ideas; (2) Get out there and LIVE! Do something different: your community center probably has exercise classes, dance classes, all kinds of things (and you'll find those free, or low cost). Nearby community colleges or universities will all have *classes* of the non-credit fun kind which fall under *adult enrichment.* You can find a weekend excursion trip (maybe birding at a beach, exploring historical sites in your area) and those kinds of mini-trips through extension will give you more exercise, opportunities to meet new people, and add some zip to your life so food won't seem half as much in the forfront of your thoughts. And the pounds will melt, while you may be having a lot more fun.
Good luck to anyone just starting along the path to healthy weight loss.
