Joyce,

Thank you for responding to some of the issues. HOwever, I am still awaiting a reply to my e-mail to you addressing the issues of harrassment and sense of safety in posting to this board.

You did make some valid points regarding some things, but there are some other, deeper issues I am concerned about.

Please reply via the address I mailed you from as soon as possible.

I agree, and hope that Joyce is watching over the boards particularly close today.

I hope CMJoyce is watching the board closely too, but on the other side of the issue. When ivillage approves a CL who calls posters liars (hurricane thread, kristie allie thread), who brings friends on board to attack other posters, and does so herself; and how about the thread where you all attacked a new grandmother about the baby, and Shawna started a thread right next to it to "praise" the person who started it all.

I imagine Joyce may pull this post, and not Shawna's post and your post etc, in which you guys attack posters. But when CM Joyce, at least, READS this post....Joyce, would you pull up the posting history of two kids and voxpopulli (pre and post CL-ship) so you can get an accurate picture of what's really going on here. There's only so many times these characters can cry "woolf" before, it would seem to me, ivillage would look at it's records and recognize that they and their cronies are the problem, the only problem here.

Thank you, Joyce.

Umm... actually it was me (and by extention "a CL") who was called a liar regarding the hurricane stuff (:

This is all well and good, and I understand what you are saying.

Joyce,

Thanks for responding. I understand your position and that your hands are tied. The posters in question are in fact harrassing, not merely annoying. Obesity is the last accepted group to ridicule and dehumanize. Most of us are fat. In our culture it's not okay to be fat. People say it's because we're lazy or dumb or over-indulgent. All of these things have been said on this board in thinly veiled language specifically designed to remain within TOS. People create multiple user names and use them to stir up problems and attack the fat people in multiple ways. I know you cannot rid the board of the people who do this, but I think the posters on this board are wanting some validation that what happens here on a regular basis is not okay.

I know that you are in a bad position, and I don't know how this will be resolved. But I do know that there will never be a peaceful exchange on this board. The name alone attracts people who dislike the overweight and they delight in saying nasty things. Some of them stick around longer and pretend to be a part of the "community" though their real goal is to chastise, shame, and bestow their great knowledge of thinness on the fat girls.

I think we simply want Ivillage to say that it's not okay to pick on us because we are fat. Things can be worded around any rules, but still contain nasty and hateful sentiments.

I personally have dealt with similar situations because I'm a psychologist and I run group therapy sessions and sometimes they get out of hand. Today, we are truly out of hand and things need to change. Pulling Astri's hateful comment about not wearing plus sized clothes would be a good start toward saying that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated.

Thanks,

Erin
