What has your mama always told you? Or what phrase did your grandmother always use? What was the best advice you were told growing up?

My mama always said "Always treat others as you would like to be treated"

And my grandmother always said "Always wear clean underwear when leaving the house, you never know...."

My mother always tried to teach us to be prepared in life. She always said, "It's better to have and not need, than to need and not have." She also said, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."

My mother always told us "never say anything you can't take back." We were always told not to call names and don't insinuate someone is stupid.

Momma said: "You make your own hell right here on earth"

"What would the neighbors say?"

Grandmother said: "Children should not speak unless spoken to."

No wonder I am so messed up! Hugs, Brenda

One has stayed with me since I was a teenager, and I apply it to my life now and it has never failed me.

I was not close to my mom at all.

She died a few years ago of cancer and my dad comitted suicide when I was in HS.

However when my mom was in hospice and dying I would go see her on a daily basis and the last time I saw her she said... "who the hell are you, surely if I had a kid that didnt look like me I would have asked at the hospital to bring my my real baby" LOL. I knew she was loosing it by then but I happen to be the puppy nobody has wanted to keep!

I just laughed and told her my name, she looked at me like she was confused and said "yeah yeah now I remember I was in labor whole watching a Jodie Foster movie"

The Australians have a similar saying--

"if you do it, don't worry. if you worry, don't do it."

I think it applies alot in life.

My parents AND grandparents always said: If you're full, don't eat any more.
