Hurricane Frances

I know that hurricanes have been talked about recently but I thought I would start a post as I didnt realize that Frances was this bad. I called my parents tonight and they filled me in on the details since they get the Florida news. They said that their news is saying that this could possibly be the worst hurricane to hit the States. Its so large that right now, it would span from the Keys to Georgia.

My parents have been staying on Merritt Island to housesit, as you all know. They are leaving in the morning since they are under mandatory evacuation again. They are being told to be out by 2 PM since they are predicting it will hit land where they are staying. They are gonna follow their close friends on the evvacuation, who live on Merritt Island as well. Her husband is bed ridden and doesnt travel well at all. So my parents are gonna follow them as far as they can and then head to Mississippi for my sister's. The cat they are keeping will be joining the neighbors on their evac since they will have to come back to Florida. My parents were leaving in a week anyhow to spend some time with my sister and then come back home (here) for the winter. So they wont be returning and Dad is afraid there wont be much to come back to anyhow. Everyone in the retirement trailer park are definitely leaving this time. The news said that their area is expecting 18 foot surges!

So for those that are in Florida or who have family there...my thoughts are with you. If you have family, please call them to see what their plans are. Im sure this will greatly effect several states, so I will keep you in my thoughts as well. I plan to be watching alot of the weather in the next few days.

Well, if you say so. I have no idea where TS Erin ended up *shrug*

If that was some kind of dig, it went by the wayside, because I don't know where Erin went (: Not that it would affect me personally anyway, being in the middle of the country.

Seems to me you and Forte started this whole issue with the hurricane and how bad it was, so you're the ones guilty of causing problems...Not I sweetie.

Like I said earlier, you are too much. Keep talking Astri, you've been entertaining me immensely :)

Maybe you need to stop blaming the tourist on the reports and watch the NEWS…. Even I have heard from the NEWS this AM that this is possibly the worst storm FL has seen I REPEAT IT WAS ON THE NEWS! So maybe you need to write them a dirty letter for posting the wrong information and getting all these people in a panic………… and here in MISSISSIPPI I am sure we can handle Shawnas parents and are glad to have them here in this state…….. I wish I could meet them myself because if their daughter is anything like them I would bet my last dollar they are awesome people! So why don’t you go write your letter to ABC about their false reporting and bunker down………. If we never hear from you again we will assume you got false information and is sitting in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico somewhere….

Thank you Des :) You are right, they are pretty awesome hehe My mom is the type of person that when you see her in public, she looks you in the eye and says "good morning" with a SMILE :) And my dad, he is the kind of guy who loves to pick on his children and play practical jokes on his friends. Im probably biased, but my parents are real life angels and _I_ am the one that is blessed to be their daughter.

Sorry for the tender family moment there but what can I say? Im goofy in love over my parents *blush*

Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but I too have heard that it's the worst hurricane to ever hit the states.

>>Pots and pans can't fly as far as I'd like to throw them sometimes<<

Hi Astri,

Ain't it the truth. One thing Mom use to say, "No good deed goes unpunished." We both should have listened to Moms.

Anyway, my friend, we both should have known better! And for the record, at least those people have left our State. Now, you stay safe.

We're just fine. This morning (not counting calories, hopefully not too many) I enjoyed a belgian waffle and ham slice at one of the best places around. It was lovely, being able to get into the place, now that tourists are finally out. It's been a long tourist season, too long.

Lunch (still not counting) I had a wonderful entree at that Thai place we discovered, and right now I'm sitting down at the computer after a totally lovely soft shell crab sandwich and ice tea at a place the tourists have kept so busy all season that no local could possibly get in.

It's wonderful. Now for it to stay that way. And hopefully *those* folks are across the border and didn't stop until past the Mississippi welcoming center.

You take care of yourself, and I'll be waiting to hear. I think we'll sit this one out. The beach was wonderful this afternoon, and the first time you could actually get a parking space for months and months without dealing with Kentucky tags.

your friend,

forte

You do realize that if another tourist never set foot in the State of Florida, all your kitchy little places would shut up tight? Do you realize what tourism does for your economy?

Thanks to you and your group I shall never set foot in the state again (actually I won't give that credit to you...I have been there twice, hated it both times, and since I can never forgive nor forget the "gift" your govenor has given to my country, I wouldn't have ever gone back anyway).

Here's hoping noone ever comes to interrupt your idyllic state again, and when your state files for bankruptcy--please don't come crying to the rest of the country. If you don't welcome us we shall have no sympathy. Feel free to not come to Washington too, as we don't depend on tourism here thank goodness. But if we did, you can be sure I would welcome them with open arms and look to those crowded restaurants with joy in my heart, knowing that they are who ensure that we all have jobs.

One favor, Shawna. Tell them not to stop driving until they see the Mississippi welcome center way way back in their rear view mirror. And ask them to choose California from here on out. Thank you.
