Is anyone watching the Republican Convention? What are your thoughts on Democrat Sen. Zell Miller talking on behalf of Bush????

Personally, not fancying Kerry in the least, I loved it. I wouldn't describe myself as either left or right wing, but I will say that I plan to vote Republican this year, being my first voting year ever(I'm 19), and I was extremely happy that Sen. Miller spoke for Bush, and I think that what he said really moved me.

What are your thoughts?

All I have to say is (thank you Kerstin) www.jibjab.com .....

And I HAVE to buy one of each T-shirt - "You're a Liberal Weiner" and "You're a Right Wing Nut Job" because I can't tolerate EITHER of them. Although I did watch the VH1 special on who Out-Blinged each other...

I liked Wes Clark, who got ran over and left in the dust. He was cute and had good hair, too.

Ralph Nader is a bit odd.

Dean the Screamer makes me laugh (hell, they ALL make me laugh)

John Edwards (who hasn't aged in 20 years, what is UP with THAT ?)is too sweet n' fluffy.

As far as the convention goes, I watched bits and pieces at work because all the die hard republicans that I was on with clustered in dispatch and bogarted the remote....

Yes, Yavie, I just found out today that Badnarik will be on the Ohio ballot. I have to follow my beliefs. I know that a Libertarian vote is a wasted one, someday it will count. :-)Stephanie

Well you know, I was talking with a friend about this very thing, today. My thoughts were sparked by this thread, where someone from another country said that her American friends didn't even know there were more than two parties.

That pisses me off! And I blame the media. They almost never give any coverage to the other parties, unless there's some scandal or hilarity involved. So because people don't know about them, or they do but don't hear about them, they don't think it's worth it to vote their conscience, because there's no way those parties can win.

My conversation was also sparked by a caller to the Bill O'Reilly radio show today. The caller said that it should be mandatory that each candidate (and he meant Rep and Dem) give an hour speech/interview to EVERY network. Well, on the one hand this is a really dumb idea. When would they ever get anything else done, between CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, CNN, MSNBC and whoever else I'm forgetting, lol.

On the other hand, if it were required that these same networks extend *invitations* to ALL candidates of ALL parties, for half hour speech or interview, with a lottery to see which candidate went first... then word would get out more about the other parties. Of course there's the silly ones like that Barking Spider something or other, but the Libs and Greens aren't small parties. They just don't have the cash to organise and advertise like the big two, and the media gives them almost no attention.

Not that that'll ever happen, because the gov't can't tell the press what to do, but it's an idea.

It just upsets me that we're in this vicious cycle. You (general you, not you Steph) won't vote Libertarian because you think your vote won't count, and because you won't vote the party won't get big enough for the next election to get some coverage. It just goes on and on, and it's not right :/

I totally agree with you, yavie. People like me who see all the personal freedoms disappearing have to vote there party or it won't grow. The Libertarian has grown so much. They only needed to get 5000 signatures to get Badnarik on the ballot and they got 10,000. :-) Stephanie
