Passing through, and wishing you safe passage during the storm. How's the baby? Your daughter and son-in-law?
My other friends here, I don't know which of you if any are in Florida but if Floridians you be....safe port, my friends.
The beach is beautiful, so far so good.

Not to worry. The weather was absolutely beautiful here today, and I posted to you about my day in Shawna's sham thread.
Anyway, to answer your questions. The baby is growing, and that's good. The hospital lifted patients to higher ground yesterday (she was in Miami) so that worry is not a worry now. Since my daughter and her hubby lost their house in the last one, well it's just insurance and not her worry at present. And she's gaining health too. So all you can really do is be well insured, and not worry too much.
We boarded up our house for the last storm, in the Tampa area, so there wasn't that work to do this time around. And we're in safe housing, as safe as it gets anyway, with the whole family here in Florida, and I don't see any reason to leave. You know how it is!
So when it's over, and after the electricity comes back (if it ever goes) I'll be here and I'm sure you will be too.
Thanks for caring, and you take care. I'm watching closely, of course, but I'm not a hysterical woman and I see no need to behave like some tourist (as we saw here)at this point in my life. PFFT & LOL
So stay safe, my fellow Florida gal. Catch ya later. I'm going for a walk along our beloved beaches before it grows any later tonight.

Fear
We're not having any problems either. It's a beautiful, sunny day, and the green flags are flying at the beach. The best part is the lack of traffic and if this *storm* (wink, wink) has done anything, it's given Florida back to Floridians a bit early so we can enjoy it again.
This morning I too splurged, and had a wonderful 2 pecan pancakes and some gourmet coffee at a place which locals haven't been able to get near for the tourist traffic in a long time. It was so wonderful, so peaceful.
Right now, I'm sitting across from the beach in an old favorite haunt, and then I'm going to get out there and enjoy the sun for a couple hours. Then who knows, maybe the Greek Festival which is going on all weekend.
If this is, as Shawna said, "the worst storm to hit America ever," perhaps somebody should have told the storm! Pfft.
One thing though, perhaps we should talk about emergency kit low calorie stuff. Somehow, get this beyond the "tall tales tourists tell" and back to the reality. This is a diet board, after all, and every area of the country has it's little "storms," so a discussion of goodies for the road might have something, at least tangentially, to do with the board.
Hoping you too are enjoying the cleared out roads, the sudden exit of tourists, and the golden opportunity (it won't last long! It never does!) to take back our beaches, our restaurants, and have some fun out there in OUR Sunshine State!
Your friend,

Same here. It's wonderful. Have you seen, on weather channel, people are going back into south Florida even as the storm is coming ashore. Big ta-da about nothing!
