The others on the weight loss boards I hit are probably sick of heairng me talk about this, but I hold onto a powerful image of myself doing Irish step-dance (if you're not familiar with it, it's one of the most demanding of the dance forms).

Faith...

My motivation is just to feel better. I know. Sounds like a lame, sorry, "everyone says that" sort of motivation, but it's true. I am SICK and TIRED of being out of breath when I have to walk up to my bedroom everynight. I'm disgusted at the fact I can hear my knees cracking under the weight as I pull myself up every stair. I have high blood pressure and my cholesterol is on the highest end of normal. My back hurts, and by 2 hours into my 10 hour shift at work, my feet are ready to give out and I end up walking like the Hunchback of Notredame. I'm 22 years old! I sould be out playing sand volleyball with my co-workers, not taking medication so I won't have a stroke! I want to be able to look my reflection in the eye and be proud of what I see. I want to be a good rolemodel for the kids I want someday! I want to be able to take my dogs for more then a walk around the block! And I can do it! I will do it! I HAVE to do it!

You'll find whatever motivation works for you. Rather it's dancing your native dance, or being a healthier mom, or not dying at the age of 22, it doesn't really matter as long as it works for you. And you can do it! We all can do it!

Take Care...

I'm with Mary, I try to find the motivation by picturing myself thinner. I just saw a woman on discovery health channel the other night and she had weightloss surgery. Anyway, she bought a sexy nighty and that kept her going. I have often thought of buying those size 16 jeans and keeping them till I could get in them. I really know where you are, I haven't had much motivation lately either.

Faith, mine is just wanting to live longer and live healthier. The realization of that. But here's a suggestion, maybe Bill Clinton and how young he is (in real terms, too young to die) and the problems his bad diet led him into. He could be a motivator, just thinking of the alternative of what happens when a person eats too many big macs over a lifetime. I don't think he'd mind being considered motivation.

Motivation is something you really have to find in yourself. For me, it was just realizing one day about a year ago that premature death and buriel in a extra-wide coffin was not my idea of a good time. And so, I tried day by day to make changes. The package that held the peanut butter cookie (held=past tense) sitting next to the computer at the moment means I still have work to do in that regard. A hurricane is no excuse for bad eating....that's my slogen today (too bad I didn't pay attention to it when I ate that cookie).

Thanks to everyone for their motivation! Just knowing that I'm really not the only one who struggles helps a lot. There are a hundred good reasons to eat better, exercise more and lose these extra pounds...I'm just gonna have to latch on to a few that mean the most to me and run with them...literally :-)

Keep the motivations coming though..I still need inspiration!

Hi Faith,

This is motivation in the negative, but I go clothes shopping. Those tell-all mirrors and lighting in the change rooms absolutely disgust me, in what I see, but it seems to work for me in staying on program. Painful but effective.

I am new to the board and starting again, but this time I'm just taking it a day at a time instead of looking at it as one huge goal.

(((Hugs)))) Debbie
