Amusment Park DISASTER!

Ok Ladies...

I'm sorry to whine, but I had a horrible day today! My husband and his whole family got a wild hair this morning and thought it would be a wonderful idea to go to the amusment park a couple hours away from Omaha. Now, I grew up in a family of thrill seekers and a good roller-coaster is something that I never pass up, besides, I haven't been to a GOOD amusment park in a few years, so I thought..."Sure, this is exactly what you need! Get out of the house, walk all over heck and back going to all the rides...it'll be good for ya!"

The first ride went well...it was all that I remember them being. I was jazzed! Totally excited to continue. Sure...the seats were a little more snug then I remembered them being...and I had to really suck it in for the bars to clasp, but it latched, and I didn't fall out. That's good Karma...right?

So we get in line for the first roller-coaster. My adrenaline is pumping...I'm thinking "Way to go. You're out of the house. You're having a great day in the sun! It's a beautiful world!" So now it's our turn to get in the coaster...and the belt won't buckle. I suck it in, I twist and turn and try to wiggle hips...nothing! NOTHING! It was 2cm from clicking.

So there I was...mortified. My ENTIRE group of SKINNY in-laws turning around in their snuggly-buckled belts and stating rather loudly..."Can't you get it buckled? Sure you can! Suck it up! SQUEEEEEEZE!" So everyone in line is snickering, and to top it off the guy that comes around to make sure you're buckled in correctly comes around...looks at me and shrugs..."Well, I guess you can get off the chicken exit!"

HORRIBLE. I FELT HORRIBLE! Like I'm not self-concious enough already! My hubby got off with me, but I ended up just sitting out the rest of the rides feeling sorry for myself. I didn't even go on the raft ride...I probably would have sunk the stupid thing! To make things even worse...my mother-in-law comes back after the ride holding a super sugary, freshly made funnel cake and says..."Here deary. This will make you feel better." AND I ATE IT!

Boo Hoo...

It was awful...

I feel awful...

Ugh!

Bad me, but if your MIL was one of the ones who was telling you to suck it in, and then she gives you a funnel cake...Punch her in the face.

Critter, I am SO SORRY you had to go through that. Funnel cake or not, NOTHING would have made you feel better at the time and I would have eaten it too.

Tomorrow is a new day...

I am so sorry that happened to you. My heart really goes out to you. I bet many of us have had similar experiences. I know I have. Restaurant booths being one of them and airplane seats. Recently I took a flight and although I only had to buy one ticket, I felt like a stuffed sausage in the seat and sort of took up space in the other seat. On the way back, the person next to me was also overweight and we had no choice but to touch in certain areas like the knees. It was so hot on the plane and our sweat was mingling and I was so grossed out. The seat belt one way was super tight and I had to sort of tuck it under my belly to get it done. I couldn't buckle it on the return so I just draped it accross my lap because I was too embarassed to ask for help. I figured that if the plane is going down, a seatbelt isn't going to do a darn thing anyway. When I got up to get off the plane I discovered that the seatbelt was just wrapped around the armrest.

Anyone else have a story like Critters?

Critter...my heart goes out to you! I can understand why when your MIL offered you that funnel cake you ate it...I would have too and more. But frankly, like Amy said that MIL probably deserved to have it in her general face area.

Oh I wish I could give you a hug but hopefully this will count ((((HUG)))).

Take care!

Cheers

((((Critter))))

I can truly feel your pain, and I understand how humiliated you must have felt. You are not alone, sweetie. About ten years ago, I was working as a teacher's assistant. We took the class on a trip to a park with a merry-go-round with the horses that go up and down. Well, I finally got up the nerve to actually climb up on the horse (one that actually moved too!) I was so excited! When it was time for the ride to start, one of the workers walked up to me and told me that I couldn't sit on the horse because there was a certain weight limit. I had to get off of the horse, and sit in one of the carriages instead. I was so embarrassed! I wanted to melt. I know it's hard, but hold your head up. You did nothing wrong, and you will survive...despite insensitive family members. ****Hugs****

Hi,

I totally feel your pain. I can't imagine how that must have been for you in the moment, but you got through it. You know, you're working on changing your eating and your weight. A lot of people wouldn't have even gone to the amusement park, but you did it. I think you deserve a lot of respect for that alone.

Hey, I'm with Amy, I **know** I would have eaten the funnel cake, too.

Thank you so much everyone for your compassion and your stories. You ladies really made my today so much better! It's nice to know that there are others out there that understand, and that can overcome. This is the support that is going to get me through. So now instead of eating my humiliation away, I think I'll go for a walk.

You ladies are the greatest. Thank you sooo much...for everything. You really have no idea how much you've helped. Giant, warm hugs for everyone...

Critter, I know I'm a littl late posting this, but I am so sorry you had to go through that. I've had similar experiences myself, and it can be humiliating. I'm glad that you're feeling better today and decided to go for a walk rather than giving in to emotional eating. (((((HUGS)))))

BTW, I would have eaten the funnel cake, too!
