I'm sure we've all heard;"Milk...it does the body good",but I've seen LOTS of places that now say adding some milk into your daily life may also help in shedding those unwanted pounds.

Well since I don't drink any milk(nasty stuff imo..unless it's chocolate and then whats the point),I was wondering how many of you DO drink milk daily and how do you feel about whats being said about milk and weightloss.Does it work? Do you think it's a bunch of hooey?

Just curious what people thought ;o)

That's interesting. Did the article have any explanation for why drinking/eating real dairy (as opposed to the supplements which they said didn't work as well) worked so well on belly fat? That's where my problem is, see hehe.

About your suggestion on the chocolate milk... don't you think that would defeat the purpose, since chocolate adds fat (and carbs I think?) Not that I'd mind drinking chocolate milk... just want to make sure the benefit would still be there!

Maybe thats why I don't like it.My husband buys 2% and I grew up on skim milk. Now that the little one is almost 3,I started buying 1%...maybe I'll buy myself a small jug of skim and see if I like that better.

Jess, you're not the only one. I LOVE milk! I've been drinking milk with my breakfast for as long as I can remember. I drink a large glass of skim milk each morning.

I'm not convinced about dairy helping you lose weight, though. If consuming dairy products kept your weight down, then I wouldn't be where I am lol! But I know that between my milk and yogurt consumption, I meet the requirements.

I like milk. I drink atleast 16oz of milk a day. I generally will have it with a meal. I can not stand milk by itself. I think there is someting wrong with that imo. I only drink skim milk, which is more like watered down milk, but it works.

Most of the time, I go to Starbucks and order a tall mocha with skim milk and no whip....emmmmm yummy.

I like milk! I drink it in lattes all the time.

But here is a new question for you guys. If you heat milk up, like for lattes, does that kill off the calcium or anything? I would think that all the good stuff is still there, but you never know.

I wouldn't think heating up milk takes out the calcium. It'd be just like heating anything else up right? Although I'm not a scientist. I'm sure there will be some type of nasty response from some on this question tho. Good thought tho Pickle.

Well considering how hot it is inside the cow (or goat or whatever) I can't imagine heating it up even to boiling is going to kill off the calcium or vitamin D in it...

Got Shape magazine last night, and found another thing about the milk/weight-loss connection.

The question is from someone seeing the ads that say if you drink 24oz of milk every 24 hours, it'll help you lose weight, is this true?

The answer is that it's true for *some* people. "Since 2000, published studies have consistently found that people who meet the recommended dietary allowance for calcium (1,000 milligrams daily for women) have lower body weights and lower body fat."

They go on to say that additional studies are needed to verify the connection, of course, but that they do know not getting enough calcium can make it easier for you to gain weight. "The body responds to a calcium deficiency by releasing hormones such as calcitriol to help absorb more of this mineral. 'Calcitriol sends the fat cells a message to start making more fat and sends another message to slow down the process of fat breakdown and oxidations,' explains Michael Zemel 'A higher calcium diet helps you burn more fat for a smaller, leaner fat cell.' "

So, there's a bit of science behind it, but it's all still being studied.

I think its strange for some reason to be encouraged to consume more dairy. I guess when I think of dairy, I think of fatty things...

But we were in the Super Walmart the other day and they were passing out brochures that say on the front "Burn more fat, lose weight!" Inside the pamphlet, it gives you recipes and coupons for dairy products. It also gives you a little literature about dairy products and weight loss.

Here is the website that goes along with the pamphlet (sp?)
