Need some ideas

I have a problem. I am a person who does not eat when I should or how I should. I do not eat breakfast, I do not eat lunch and then I will eat dinner, but it is nothing substantial. You would think I would be thin. However, my doctor advises me that I am starving myself. I do not feel that I am starving myself, I just do not have the appetite to eat. I need some ideas on how to eat a breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner. I just do not want to eat and if I do, I will have a pretzel or a cracker. Eventhough, I have strawberries, apples, bananas, etc readily available.

I thought about putting a food journal on the board, so that I would have to remind myself to eat.

Any suggestions

Hey, a food journal is probably the best place for you to start :) Whether you want to eat or not, you should make yourself eat...just like most of us have to stop ourselves hehe Your doc is right. If your not eating enough food, then your body will hold onto every bit that you give it and cause you to gain weight instead of maintain or lose.

I know what you mean. I'm not a breakfast eater either. And it's hard to eat breakfast at work too. But I've been taking a non-fat yogurt and some almonds (for protein) and a piece of fruit and after I have my coffee, it seems to work for me now. If you low carb, there's a whole bunch of choices too. You really have to MAKE yourself do that. Sometimes its a chore for me for some reason. I don't have a snack before lunch. But I will have one after lunch and before dinner. I keep a box of Slimfast snack bars in my desk or some pretzels from the vending machine. I know not the healthiest but it keeps me from binging on chocolate before dinner.

I think the point is to get things that you actually like to eat and would look forward to eating and planning.

As for dinner, make it a relaxing, healthy reward for the day for yourself. Don't know if you live alone or with someone, but regardless. Dinner for me is usually protein (meat) vege and salad. I set myself a place, napkin and acutally cook it.

I feel so much better after having eaten 3 meals plus a few light snacks thru the day. It really improved my energy.

It takes a while to do something before it becomes a habit. Keep doing it and you won't think twice about it.

And yes, you are starving yourself. Your body is not getting enough fuel to burn calories much less help you survive on a daily basis. Eat girl! You can do it! You'll feel so much better!

Good Luck to you...

I think journaling is a very good idea. You might also think about starting small. Add breakfast or a mid-morning snack instead of breakfast, snack, lunch and snack to your day. Once you and your body are in the habit of something in the early-to-late morning, then add in lunch, and so on. This will not only make it easier on you psychologically, but physiologically as well. No shock to the system!

You are starving your body. Instead of losing weight as you might think you would by doing this, your body is instead hanging onto whatever small bit of stuff you put into it and turning it all into fat instead of burning it off. The other problem with eating only one meal a day is your metabolism slows down... that's what causes your body to hang onto your dinner. Once you start eating more, your metabolism will go up and the whole process becomes much healthier!

GL on this (:

(((((Zoei))))), if your doctor says you're starving yourself, I'd pay very close attention.

Zoei - I think a journal would be the best thing! I used to do what you do but I'd add in the binging every once-in-awhile to top it off...bad habit! I rarely ate breatkfast but now I wake up hungry...and I find if I haven't had a snack by 10 a.m. (I usually have breakfast at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays) I get grumpy. It takes awhile to train your body but once you do you'll find it a heck of a lot easier.

Start with the journal though and post it - that way you're not only accountable to yourself but to others...that's what it took for me to keep it up. You may want to look into getting a blog.

Good Luck!

Cheers
