Instead of eating...

Okay ladies... (and gentlemen?):

I am trying to get serious again, and it is HARD getting started. My eating habits have gone to crap, and I am thinking of doing weight watchers, but am not sure yet.

My biggest problem, though, is stress- and boredom-induced eating. (How one can suffer from both, I'll never know, but I DO!)

I am starting a list of things that I, you, anyone, could do INSTEAD OF EATING. Please know that I don't mean instead of eating regular meals- I mean instead of over-eating. Please add any ideas you have to the list! :)

1. EXERCISE!!!!

2. Clean house

3. Read

4. Write letters/ emails

5. Call friends and family

give me more alternatives!! :)

Thanks,

Tina

Hi, (((Tina))) -

That's an ongoing problem for most of us, I think.

Well, this can be anything, but do whatever takes you AWAY from where the food is.

Hey Tina - great post!

Here's what I do to keep myself busy (especially at night when it gets lonely and suddenly easier to snack):

- give myself a manicure or pedicure

- sketch

- I've taking up knitting now with a group of girls from work

- I keep my exercise ball in the living room so I'll do crunches, push-ups and weights while watching the tele

- iron (I hate doing it but it has to be done and it keeps my hands busy)

- go for a walk (I especially like walking in the evening)

- see what's happening on the 100+ board!

Hope some of those help!

Cheers

Paint your fingernails. It is hard to eat when you can't move for fear of smudging a nail. Even if you only use clear nail polish. Another thing that works so well for me is to Identify the Emotion I am trying to eat.

Come post on this board - when you can identify with the struggle and the little successes it can go a long way to stopping the chewing.

Brush your teeth.

Drink a large glass of water.

Sometimes I step on the scales and then that is enough to make me stop and think.
