OT: how much do you tip at restaurants?

  • 50% or more, I'm generous
  • 20-50%
  • 10-20%
  • 10% or less, I'm a cheapskate

I am asking because I CANNOT believe the number of people who leave $0.25 tips on $40 bills. Do people not know that 10% minimum (unless the service REALLY stinks) is the general guideline? AGGGH!

I tip 15-20% generally. If I really liked their personality and stuff, then I tip 20%. If I thought they just did an "ok" job, then 15%. Ive rarely given before that though...

Generally I go 15 - 20, 20 if they did a really great job.

I generally tip between 15-20%, usually 20%. If I don't think I got good service I will only tip 15%. If it's really bad, I'll do less than 15%, but that's rare. I hate cheap people! If you can afford to go out to eat, then you can afford to leave a decent tip.

Touchy subject for me...We've banned resteraunts for poor service.

I think it really depends on the service. Good service, Good (sometimes GREAT) tip! Bad service, little or NO tip.

Call me cheap, but if the waiter/waitress has an attitude, loses my order, or just plain doesn't care, he/she will not be tipped for it. It's been done before and probably will be done again. But that just tells them it's ok to do that to the next person(s). But if the waiter/waitress is attentive and freindly then he/she will be compensated.
