Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone here is diabetic. Lately I've been quite afraid of getting diabetes. My father has type II and my doctor has warned me that I'm at high risk. I also tested positive for the first gestational diabetes test, but I passed the second one and did not develop the disorder during my pregnancy.

I'm trying to eat fewer carbs, though I'm not counting right now. I'm also upping the exercise which I know dramatically reduces my risk of getting the disorder. Weight loss will also help.

Even though I know I'm taking positive action to reduce my risk, I still find it scary as hell.

I suppose I'm just looking to see if anyone is living with it or is also prediabetic.

Erin, I am prediabetic. That is one of the reasons I should lose the weight. My sister has diabetes, diagnosed about 2 years ago. She is forty and is over weight. Her Dr. tells her if she would lose the weight she could be diet controlled. I am 36 and I am afraid I am looking at my future. I am most definitely in the insulin resistance catagory. I also had gestational diabetes and 20% of women who have this disease become true diabetics within 20 years. Hugs, Brenda

I would say we are all at risk of getting diabetes since we are all overweight. So it is something good to keep in mind. I kept worrying I would get gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with Ike and I was blessed not too. I have been lucky so far...
