A Petition to iVillage

This is a community of women - a support group where women who have/had 100+ pounds can come to safely visit with each other.

As the disclaimer states "This board is a place where women who want to lose more than 100 pounds can find a safe and supportive community. It is NOT a place to debate obesity. More importantly, this board is not a place to attack or judge other members who are seeking support. Posts of this nature will be removed and may result in loss of membership and posting privileges. If you are seeking to lose under 100 pounds, we suggest you visit Diet & Fitness's list of boards and choose a board that fits your needs. Thank you!"

iVillage prides itself on safety of the members. Hence, the Terms of Service

"At iVillage, our goal is to provide a safe, friendly community where members can find the information and support they need. When you join, you agree to abide by our terms of service. The terms of service set standards for our website and our community. The rules of play provide additional rules and information for our community, so please take a moment to review these guidelines"

This board is not safe. This board has been stalked for the past year and a half by an individual who has repeatedly created new names. This individuals posts are all the same - mean spirited attacks. A few members have been particularily targeted by this poster and the sense of fear is present.

The members of this board have repeatedly asked for ivillage assistance in removing this individual. The members of this board have compromised their safety long enough. iVillage must do something to protect the members of this board from harrassment. This is a hostile environment.

iVillage employees have stated that they know the identity of the individual behind this harrassment. iVillage has an obligation to protect the members of this board. Legal action must be taken against this member before the members of this board file legal action against iVillage for violating our right to safety. Since many members pay to belong to iVillage a lawsuit would not be unrealistic.

iVillage all we ask for is a safe place to post.

have you traced their IP address? if they are doing it from home, then you could easily trace their identity ... ivillage DOES have legal rights to find out that info ... it seems to me like ivillage could be doing alot more then they are

As for how iVillage handles these issues, I can not go into detail.

Thank you CMJoyce for responding. It is so frustrating when this individual posts early in the evening or on weekends and the posts just sit there until the following Monday. It is hard to ignor them when they are so mean spirited. It is sad when some of the boards most supportive posters feel personally threatened.

How can we build a community here when we never know when this individual will surface and attack? How can we trust the boards to really share with others what we are struggling with?

I know the idea is to not feed into the malcontent - but this is our board and we will defend it and each other against those who come here for the sole purpose of mocking and insulting.

The posts from this individual are escalating in vile hatred and that is a concern for all of us.

iVillage needs to be monitoring this board more often and remove the offending posts that happen on the evenings/weekends immediately while iVillage continues to processes our concerns though legal/technical channels.

Safety - that's all we ask.

Thank you,

Sheesh, I'm late again! But I support this petition also!

And I don't think things are being done in a timely matter. Just my opinion.

as i said ... *if* they are doing it from home then you could trace an identity to an IP address, all you would hafta do is contact that ISP and find out who is issued that IP address
