A little advice please....

Hi everyone. I just started Atkins on Monday...I have done the diet before so I am optimistic and excited. That being said...Thanksgiving is in two weeks I am not sure if I should allow myslef to eat whatever I want for that one day, or stick to Atkins. Ususally I would just have the day "off" but seeing as I just started Monday I fear that it might be too early for that and it would sabatoge me? But then again...IT'S THANKSGIVING and there is pie and mashed potatoes!! Any advice?? Thanks

Well, only knowing somewhat about Atkins, the only piece of advice I can give you about Thanksgiving is this...don't necessarily give in completely, especially since you fear that it might backfire. Instead, allow yourself to have some of those devilish pleasures, but watch how much of these things you eat. It's all about portions. This way, you still get to eat some of those things you might miss out on otherwise, but you also are still in control, which will help you to keep from sabatoging yourself. Hope this helps.

Thanks Denice! That does help, unfortunately I am still trying to teach myself to have "alittle bit" I am an all or nothing type of girl. I found some recipes for low carb pumpkin pie and low carb pumpkin cheesecake. I will try those out I think, and stick to Atkins as best as I can. I think I will only regret it later! I was thinking today about just "forgetting" Atkins until after the holidays, but then I started to think of how easy it is to gain and how hard it is to lose...and how all the food I've eaten to get me where I am is gone and forgotten, if I could go back and un-eat everything I ate to make me as big as I am I would. Thanks again

If you would like, I could get you some information on easy ways to determine portions that I got from my nutrionist. It might be helpful, even with Atkins. Also, I have some friends who have done Atkins before, and I could ask them if they have any other low carb recipes that might be able to help you get through. Just let me know.

I village has an Atkins message board with a receipe folder in which you may find some good ideas. Try there.

I also add my 2 cents to try to eat smaller portions of those things that are not Atkins like. And make some stuff to take with you that is Atkins friendly.

I am trying to get my family to eat Atkins friendly and not let them realize it. Sneaky huh?

If you can't beat them get them to join you!

I plan to re-read the sections in South Beach Diet book regarding falling off the wagon every morning before I will have a meal that would include things I don't want myself eating. Atkins Diet Revolution also has lots of suggestions about falling off the way of eating and how to get back on.

I don't think you'd want to do a whole day off, at least not that early in the game.
