and you're trying so hard to stay on a diet but you get so hungry you just know how good a bacon cheeseburger and fries would taste and it just feels so haaarrrd not to go get that or a big pizza or whatever? What do you do to psyche yourself into staying with the diet or stave off the hunger?

TIA from a lurker who will probably be joining in more frequently as I really need to do something to get myself back on the healthy eating and exercise path.

Despite that fact that I too am not doing so hot at the moment, here's what I think... The biggest key is to not let yourself get to the point of starving. Keep lots of healthy snacks around and eat something every 2-3 hours. If you wait too long and let yourself get too hungry it makes it soooo much easier to give in to that pizza or cheeseburger. If you're not totally starving and feeling deprived at the next mealtime its easier to make the right choices. Another thing is that if your eating plan isn't giving you enough calories or isn't flexible enough to allow some snacking or whatever then you need to find something different that will actually work for you. No diet is worth starving over, that's no way to live!

I have a pretty easy time staying on track at work...I guess b/c I stay really busy. But around 430PM I start getting hungry. I usually run to a convenience store and get a Special K bar and a diet coke. That helps stave off hunger and keeps me from inhaling the contents of my refrigerator and cupboard when I come home. Then when I get home I can make some healthier choices.

I guess if I was really smart, I would buy a box of those bars and keep them in my car!

I usally eat some protien....like a small piece. I usually get about 1/2 an ounce of cheese that does it for me. I have tried slices of cucumber and that sometimes does the trick. But I am on a low carb - low fat +/- diet. (Doing it my way)

Anyway, Good Luck...I am interested in seeing what others do.

Thanks everyone. I will try them all! I know I'm wrong in letting myself get so hungry, but it always seems that for me the only way I can ever really lose weight is to starve myself. But I'll start trying the snacks and see how that goes. I don't like carrots or celery though. Maybe cucumber and squash slices. I have a fridge at work so that will help. and I've baaad at drinking the water. Some days I'll realize that I haven't drank water all day, just Coke or tea.

i eat when i am starving.

however; i don't usually let myself reach the starving mark.

i am the first to eat if i am hungry.

today i slept until 11am. had a pimento cheese sandwich. then a grapefruit and now i am eating bacon and drinking my water.

i weigh 182 pounds today.

a year ago; i weighed 260 pounds.

i have partially modified Atkins.

i have partially modified South Beach diet

i have partially played with Slim Fast.

i read the makers diet, but cant get used to Goat cheese..

i have used some of the gardenoflifeusa.com supplements and would swear by them..

i exercise the most in march, april, may, june, summer, up to now...

i hate cold weather.

i used to work for a living.

just quit my job last week.

thinking about rejoining the old YWCA... it has an indoor swim pool

i love swimmng. the only people that go to this one are OLDER folks.

young, skinny, svelte, hunky, good lookin, men and womenn make me SO INFERIOR...

i'm reading Body for Life website... i could do that! and i might.

sorry for the RANT... i do that quite often. i need my voice to be heard.

eat if u r hungry.. but don't eat unhealthly for you.

if u r diabetic... high cholesterol... high blood pressure... IBS... the list goes on...

eat what is good for your you~ness and don't feel guilty. there's always the rest of the day to get started on what will make u feel better all the way through...

p.s. DRINK GOBS OF WATER.

i buy either Sams Choice from Walmart or Aquafina, my favorite but .50 cents more expensive... i bring home and put the bottles in the refrig and then have cold water whenever i need a boost.

good luck, Iris
