How are you planning on making it through the next two weeks of festivities where your WOE is concerned, and what kind of *emotional* support do you have for this time?

Well Im going to try my hardest to get through the holiday season. I really do not have any emotional support coming from anyone (exceptt you ladies). My husband has bailed on me after being on his diet for about 4 days. My whole family will be over to my house for Christmas so I have to prepare the food the way they are used to(full of butter and salt). But I will look within and try and find a few ounces of strength to get me through this.

My plan is to have no plan. I simply know from experience that when Shawna and I get together, our best laid plans get stomped all over by Starbucks and Buddy Squirrel and whatever else comes our way LOL! I'll just keep not snacking quite so much, add in some water, etc...

As for emotional support, Shawna will be it for me. (I won't be coming here too often except reading over her shoulder - too lazy with the logging in and out thing!)

I'm just not going to beat myself up over anything gained, mostly.

Machelle', have you thought about NOT making everything to everyone elses expectations? I mean, you are the chef after all, and it is your home. If you've been using any butter alternatives, keep using those. Cut the salt down. If they want salt they can put it on themselves... that kinda thing. Most of the time, people never know something's been substituted anyway unless you tell them!

It has crossed my mind to use butter subs. and to make everything as low fat/low cal as possible. But, I really dont want to hear 21 people complaining in my ear how terrible the food taste. But then again, my family complains abut everything when they all get together:-)

I can tellyou that if you sub whole milk for cream, or even use 2% milk, they WILL NOT know....also, low fat cream cheese in dishes....won't know.

I had a party Saturday and made mini cheesecakes w/low fat cream cheese......every one of them was gobbled up. Made dips w/low fat mayo and cream cheese.....all gone.

Its all in your mind that they will be able to tell. Now, if you use skim in mashed potatoes....well, they'll know. But with other things, most peopl.e don't know. If they ask, tell them you don't know WHAT they are talking about.

good luck.

Hi, Machelle & Dawn--

Let me add my good wishes... and a warning not to try to make beef stroganoff with that vile substance known as "light sour cream". Unless anyone knows of a brand that still has that real sour-cream tang?

I don't know how strict you're being with yourself, or which WOE is your preference, but my strategy for Christmas Eve is to go ahead and cook the expected for everyone, just eat much less of it myself, and THEN settle down to a more rigid plan. I'm pretty much my own emotional support for this, along with you all. Not that my SO and friends/colleagues are unsympathetic, but it's just not a topic that many people can relate to, or pretend to find interesting for long.

As for all the lovely chocolate-covered presents (I'm a university administrator, and the faculty are muy generous), I gorged so much last week that they don't even tempt me-- today! I "oooh" and "ahhhh", and when no one's looking, I consign them to the lower reaches of hell (the candy/cookies, not the professors).

Happy Holidays!

Well Yavie----

I know this will sound crazy to some of you but for Christmas Dinner we have sandwiches.

I know, I know....sandwiches...which we all look forward to. About 10 or 12 years ago my FNL had his first big heart attack and we got him back home in time for Christmas Dinner but no one had time to cook.

So I suggested we have a varity of deli sandwiches....we were all so sick of turkey ham, the trimmings etc...and it was a hit!

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THIS THREAD? Its the BREAD. We have lots of different kinds of bread, rolls, etc....and I am a carboholic and on a low carb diet.....so I PLAN TO EAT THE MEAT AND VEGGIE TRIMMINGS BUT NO BREAD!

Sorry guys too much coffee this morning....
