Hi I'm new to the boards I've been on my diet close to 8 months now, I've ajusted my eating habits and have been on the "Healthy Choice" diet I eat 2 of them a day their like small portioned dinners, my calorie intake is about 600 or sometimes less a day, the diet is great, I was up to almost 300 where even going up steps I was out of breath now I can walk longer without getting tired I'm down to 239 and for some reason for a few months I've been staying there I do eat more than 600 calories somedays but never go over 900, except maybe yesterday I went out to eat but only do that every month or so. I get sick when I eat anything sweet I guess after 8 months of not having it my body is rejecting it but my goal is to get down to 110 pounds or maybe less but I want to do it healthy like I have been. I don't exercise I know that's one of my problems but I have a thing with my feet that doesn't let me walk for long periods of time I do push myself sometimes but what other exercises are there besides walking and jumping?

IMO, I don't think you are getting enough calories in.

How tall are you? 600 calories is not a lot of food intake.

As far as workout suggestions you would want to increase your intake as well. I would suggest Yoga, or Pilates. If you are having trouble with your feet both of these types of workouts can be done on a mat.

Also if you have a local gym, that has a swimming pool.

Just some suggestions.

Im will have to agree with the other post from Jodi. 600 calories is waaaay to low for anyone no matter what their weight....But as for your question, have you tried getting on an exercise bike? Its great for cardio (which will shead the lbs) and you don't have jump or do any walking.

I also have to agree with Jodi....600 calories is way too little.

Did you consult a doctor? In any case...you didn't mention your water intake either. Let us know how tall you are also.

I try to do TAE-BO just the arm exercises for right now... I have masive sized arms and I want to get them down.

Swimming is the best if you have injuries or problems with your legs and feet.

Congratulations on your progress--- that's really fantastic!

I agree with Jodi, it sounds like you're taking in so few calories that maybe some odd metabolism tricks are cropping up. And while not tolerating sweets may seem like a dream come true to us folks trying to lose weight, it's a bit worrying as well. You don't want any permanent damage. Have you seen/been seeing a physician or nutritionist? These might be good points to bring up with them. And if they faint because you've been so low-cal, consider it a bonus!

I also agree with the Pilates suggestion. At my worst/laziest/fluffiest, I've gone to Pilates class and been able to do almost every exercise (just modifying the ones where you need to put weight on the knees). There are some great tapes if you don't like classes or have one near you. I wish I could tape our instructor for you-- she has the BEST visualizations. "Now you're a mermaid and your legs are tight-tight together"; "There's a steel rod pinned through your hips and into the floor" (ouch!); "Cement has been dumped over every part of your body except that upper leg"-- you get the idea! The exercises are tougher than they look, and all about form. Just take it easy, and enjoy.

And stay healthy!

I was thinking about this a little more too.

Your body could have gotten used to what you are eating. You need to shake things up. Incorporate some new foods into your diet. Perhaps more protien.

Your metabolism goes through phases. Where it accepts and rejects certain things. You hitting a plateau is your body's way of saying it may be time for a change. It needs to be rev'd up.

Try more fruit, protien or good fats. A dollap of peanut butter with a bananna. You can mae very healthy choices and intake more food with loosing weight at the same time.

As we have said 600 calories is not a lot of food. Most "diets" are at least 1000 calories. Plus also keep in mind that you want to make an overall lifestyle change, not just diet. Your body will go into overload when you get off track or deicide to not do what you are doing. Which of course brings the weight back faster.

Your loss is terrific, I don't want to seem like I am coming down on you. I just would like to see everyone have sucess. I hope our suggestions make sense.

I'm making an appointment with my doctor for the beginning of January so she can send me to a foot and nutritionist doctor I've been putting it off since November I've always been known to procrastonate but I will definatly be making a appointment 1st of January I didn't know 600 calories wasn't normal just hope whoever my doctor sends me to won't yell at me lol or faint I really didn't have any idea I was just tired of the way I was eating and wanted to change

... and, wow, you've done a fantastic job in losing... but it's probably not a good idea longterm. I'm glad you're seeing a physician, hopefully a supportive one!

That's a good idea, Mickie. A nutritionist will be able to show you how to put meals together that will be more than 600 cal. a day and help you keep your weight loss going. Congrats, by the way. To stay on ANY plan 8 months is an achievement in itsself! As for exercise, yoga is a great exercise to start out with, swimming is good, too. But what I used that may be helpful is videos. At almost 400 lbs. the last thing I want is to exercise with skinny-minis at Bally's! Anyway, I started out using the book "8 Minutes in the Morning--for real shapes and sizes" by Jorge Cruise. It is really good for people who don't have timeto do a full program and for people who are real heavy or have been sedentary a long time. Then I started to use "Walk Away The Pounds" by Susan Sansone videos (which you can get dirt cheap on Ebay, BTW) and I have lost 30 lbs. doing them. I don't have to go outside, no gym, if I don't want to, and even though they seem easy, they are challenging and DO work. You will notice results in at least 2 weeks doing them. I also have a few others to keep things interesting and to rotate to when I want a change. I have bellydance videos (great exercise!), Richard Simmons' Sweating to the Oldies, Rodney Yee's Yoga videos, and some others. Hope that is helpful!

Several things in your post jump out at me. First, I agree with everyone else that 600 calories is WAAAAY too low. Some very obese people can go on very low calorie diets, but such diets are supervised by their doctors and are nutritionally well-balanced. Healthy Choice meals do not contain all the vitamins and minerals a 20-year-old woman needs. Although you're talking to your doctor in a few weeks, you should probably be eating *at least* 1,200 calories a day (and you could probably go up to 1,600 if you start walking or doing any other physical activity).

The other thing that jumped out at me is your goal weight. I think 110 is probably too low for a 5'6" woman. You could probably go as low as 120 and still be pretty healthy, but a better weight would probably anywhere between 130-145, depending on your bone structure.

While it's great that you've lost so much weight so far, you really should be focusing on losing weight while you take good care of your body. That means eating well-balanced meals, getting enough sleep, and finding ways to be physically active.
