I know people have different views on weight loss surgery, but I was just wondering if anyone has done it or is considering it?

The people I have told (hubby of course, my family, friends, most of my department at school-we're a very close dept.) have been sooo supportive. They all think it is wonderful. A couple just had questions about what it is and what it does. After I explained they thought it was awesome.
As for anyone that is outside of that circle, frankly it's none of their business and if they don't like it- who cares? It's not their life. It's not their health.
In my mind, the surgery is a tool just like any other- Weight Watchers, Low-Carb, whatever, and it is a PROACTIVE move to improving my health and life. It's better than doing nothing. And frankly the only people whose opinion matters to me want me to be healthy and happy and will support me no matter what. If they don't, then they don't belong in my life. Fortunately I don't have anyone like that around me. Those outside of that circle don't need to know. And if they do and have negative comments about it- like I said- who cares? Who are they to me anyway? I'm not one to hide behind what others think.
I think one thing that may help is that the people I am surrounded with are well educated and are open to new ideas.
Each person has to make thier own decision, but I know I am SURE I don't make decisions about my life based on what outsiders approve of or disapprove of.

Many good posts!

To the person who wrote about us fatties taking the easy way out with surgery...I hold'em down if you kick the schmit out of them! Or if you wanna hold them down it's okay with me.

I think probably GOD does want someone to be fat...but I don't think He wants all of America to be fat! Joyce Meyers (TV and tape ministry lady)had a face lift...He didn't stike her down.

I also think it is another tool for us to get thin....just as whatca doodle wrote.

Sorry guys I am not good with names....but I love you all!

Ps Jodi! GIRL! YOU IN A SIZE 12....OMG! I'd be shaking that tang!

Hi All! I just found this board and am so glad. This topic is near and dear to my heart as I just had the lapband surgery on 1/5/05. I'd be happy to explain whatever you might have a question about. I was 300 pounds - twice what I should be. A scary thought to lose HALF of you.

I don't want to just blabber on but would be happy to share whatever info you might want.

Nice to meet you!

I am a stay at home mom - had my surgery on Wed.

Wed/Thurs/Fri I could not have managed everything myself. Saturday and Sunday I could have with help and by Monday I was on my own again. HTH

I had a hard first day but really, everyday was significantly better. I was sleeping on my side by day three - on my stomach by day six.

Tomorrow is my six week post op anniversary and unless I saw the small scars I wouldn't know I had the surgery (in terms of pain).

HTH

Hugs,
