I had to have mine out about 8 years ago after I lost 50#s. Something about weightloss causes a build up of cholesterol thus forming gall stones. I had one big stone. the size of a golf ball. Two years ago I formed another stone after losing 20#. I don't even have a gall bladder, but they are still forming in the bile duct. Hurt like heck, but this one was small and I was able to pass it through the bile duct into the stomach after about 5 days of pain. All that said. Not everyone does this. I guess I am just a lucky one! Hugs, Brenda
WOW! I didn't know that! I already have gall stones. Of the seven I have one as big as my thumb nail. I am losing weight now...so I am wondering if I will have the same problem as you. I need to have my gall bladder out so I am thinking now that I will not have it out. However, I have been having lots of pain....but I can "shake it off" if I sit still and not move. I wonder if a gall badder can explode like the appendix?
Your gall bladder won't explode like your appendix. I also had a series of gall bladder attacks like you are describing until I had one big one that would not go away and I ended up in the ER, the on the operating table a few hours later. I had a stone the size of a large marble. That was in 2000. I had to have the surgery again this past fall because another stone had formed in the duct. Unfortunately, gall stones are not something that will just go away...no matter how hard you will it too!!! If you are already having the attacks, you will likely have to have surgery to remove it. Thankfully, they can do it laproscopically, and it doens;t require a lot of recovery time. Good Luck!
Your gall bladder can form a stone that is a build up of minerals and cholesterol. This is most common in people with the four F's - female, fertile, fat and near forty. Gall Bladder attacks and stones seem to happen most often in women that are overweight, but can happen to almost anyone. Once a stone forms, it can create an intense pain that feels like it is in your stomach, and will usually go away after several minutes. If there is a stone, it will have to be removed surgically to ultimaltely alleviate the pain.
I had my gall bladder out in 2003. My doctor told me something that I can't remember how he worded it. He basically told me that they COULD get infected, or burst, or do something that could be fatal if they were not seen to properly. Whatever he said, he meant that a gall bladder problem should not be taken lightly. You might want to know that the surgery can be done through laproscopy. They don't cut you open, but put about three to four little incisions in your abdomen. They can only do this when your gall bladder is not too far gone. Laproscopy is an outpatient surgery and you can often go to the hospital and have it out and leave the same day. I did. It takes anywhere from a couple of days to a week to recover at home. It depends on you. I was afraid of the surgery when I found I had gall bladder trouble. I had one big stone. You may want to check and see if you should wait too long because gall bladder trouble can cause something in your liver to be increased or decreased. Mine was. However, the problem fixed itself when the surgery was over. Keep in mind that laproscopy is a MUCH less dramatic surgery than being cut completely open. It may even be less expensive.
WOW! Thanks for all the info....I guess I will have to schedule an appointment with the doctor that told me I had them to begin with....maybe he can tell me when I should have them removed.
I have a big tummy...and I am afraid that small cuts to remove the bladder may not work with me...remember I weigh 300 pounds!
I had my gallbladder removed in 1986 and probably weighed around 250, don't remember. What I do remember was how painful the attacks were. The first gallbladder attack I had scared me to death. I thought I was having a heart attack. Anyway I have a 7 or 8 inch scar diagonaly across my abdoman. I had about 8 stones the size of a BB so I guess they really very from person to person. Stephanie
Yeah I am scared too....my sister had it done around the time you had yours. She had a long cut from under one breast to the oppsite hip...and she never really healed for the incision. Later we found out the doctor who did that operation on her had and was being sued for malpractice and finally lost his license. It was on the TV news!!! That was so bad for her.

Your size probably won't matter.
