I came to iVillage back in 97 looking for info on weight loss, then forgot about it. I've just decided a few days ago that I am going to do everything in my power to have a baby before I'm 30. This means that I need to lose some weight. I was looking for a place where I could find some support from people who know what it's like. I went a few weeks ago to audition for that show, the Biggest Loser, and there were people there who only needed to lose 30-40 pounds. I thought, "Go to a gym!" I think it was jealousy that I need to lose that much five times over.
I've yo-yo'd a lot over the last ten years, I'm 25, I ballooned after puberty, skinny as a stick prior to. A lot of my trouble has been accepting that I'm going to stay overweight if I don't change my ways. I always thought that since I didn't change my ways to gain, I would eventually lose if I just didn't alter. I've tried altering several times and have had successful weight losses, usually 20-40 pounds in 1-2 months, I don't know why, but I never keep up my successful habits once I hit that time mark. So, anyway, I need to lose, depending on whose weight chart you use, anywhere from 160-200 pounds.
My present plan is simply eating whem I'm hungry and stopping when I'm not hungry anymore. I want to take the time to savor my food, not eat while I'm watching t.v. This is one of the ways that I've lost 20+ pounds in a month or less before, just consuming as many calories as my body needs. There's this big myth in America that I don't overeat because when I go to McDonald's I don't supersize my meal. Well, newsflash! A McDonald's meal is far too much food to be eating in one sitting. I've learned that one's stomach is (should be) the size of one's fist. One should not eat more than what would fill their fist in one sitting.
So, I use my fist for visuals, but have only overeaten twice in the last three days. I'm doing okay. Once I'm doing that reliably for a month or more, I will work harder on replacing my soda with water. For now, I'm reducing my soda intake by buying in cans (smaller quantity in the container) and making myself pitchers of Kool-Aid with half the recommended amount of sugar (subsituted with Splenda). I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for letting me ramble and if you read all the way through, thanks a lot! :)

Hi Andrea!
And welcome aboard....I too, like your fist size meal portions idea....that will work for me. I am in the process of cutting my servings down again. I am really excited about it.

I have learned that one of the biggest parts of not overeating is not letting yourself get so hungry that you overeat when you get the food. That's the biggest thing for me. When I feel like I'm hungry, I grab something, even if it's only a couple of crackers or chunks of pineapple, the important part is keeping my blood sugar steady, which I can't do if I wait to eat. :)
