Late Night Hunger Any Remedies?

Well last night I got really hungry about 9:30. Now eating a tiny piece of cheese or other protein will do it for me just about any time of the day. But almost every day about 9:30 PM I get this vicious carb carving desire going and I am having a really hard time dealing with it.

Do you guys think it is just a nasty habit that I have got to break or is there some kind of thing I can do unitl I can break this cycle? I've tired lots of water but that does not work either.

Help!

The one thing I have tried to do is when I am done eating for the night I brush my teeth, that usually makes me not want to eat anything. My late night attacks are usually for something salty or starchy as well.

Just a thought, I know its not much

I also agree with brushing your teeth. But another thing that I found.. if I'm craving carbs, I eat a dill pickle. That might sound really weird, but something about the sour and salt kills my craving for carbs!!!

I have the same problem. For me, I know it's just a bad habit that I'll have to deal with... what I'll most likely be doing is having a small snack around 9, like peanut butter on apples or that kind of thing.

If you like to snack around that time of night, then make a special snack bowl/box for you.

I do the teeth brushing thing too, doesn't always work but it does most of the time. Also try to keep your mind and maybe your hands busy with something. One thing that works well for me is to sit and cross-stitch while I'm watching tv, next thing I know time has flown by and I've managed not to raid the kitchen.

Nighttime eating is a hard habit to break, good luck!!

Hello Sussie Q,

I don't know what time you are going to bed - your posting said late night hunger. One thing I have found helpful is to do a couple of yoga poses that are known to help put you to sleep. They relax your body and put you in the mood to shut down for the night so to speak.

You can learn relaxing yoga from a great tape called PM Yoga by Rodney Yee, or look in yoga books for poses that cure insomnia.

I follow the Zone diet, so I usually have a cup of skim milk and a teaspoon of peanut butter. That usually (somehow) satisfies my sweet tooth. If the cravings get really bad, I try to go to sleep early so I won't have to deal with them... LOL.
