please. :-)

I broke my foot at the end of October and up until Monday had a cast. Now I have an orthopedic boot, but I am still not supposed to bear weight for very long times. FOr this reason, my favorite exercise - walking - is out. Swimming and exercise bike are also out because I can't aford a health club membership right now. I am at a loss what to do to work up a good sweat. Any suggestions appreciated. :-)

I'm sorry to hear about your foot :( As far as exercise goes, you can work your upper body by lifting weights (if you don't have any weights, you can used cans or water bottles). I know it's not an aerobic workout, but at least it's some exercise. I can't think of anything else right now, but if I do think of anything, I'll let you know.

One of the things that I like to do, which can be some good exercise is strectching and the sort of floor stuff we did in grade school. I usually sit on my bed to do it, because I have a hard enough time getting up from the floor. I go through a routine of stretching each leg, sitting up, with my legs spread. Then I bring them in and do a butterfly stretch. Another thing I do, which is a fairly good workout, is to lay flat on my back and lift my legs. I lift them straight in the air and then hold one in the air and lift at the knee. Also, I will "bicycle" while laying on my back. Some of these may be hard to do with a walking cast, but if you can do them, they will be great exercise. :) I've lost a lot of weight and done a lot of muscle toning just doing these simple exercises. If you want, you can e-mail me and I can give you more detail on the different stretches.

Hi!I saw something once on a woman who was in a wheel chair and lost weight.Maybe you can do exercise while seated in a chair using a video or dvd designed for this purpose. She looked great, and lost a good deal of weight. Some channels on cable have fittv, or exercise programs that might have a workout you could exercise with.It must raise your metabolism to do this.Hope this is helpful to you!
