Hello,
I'm a 32 year old mom of 3 who is looking to lose...oh...i almost can't believe it,
...130 pounds. YIKES. I cannot belive i have gotten to this point. Somewhere in the middle of having kids...i think i just stopped looking at myself. (People i know can't believe i weigh as much as i do...so i think i carry the weight well,...not that that really helps any.) Anyway...over the last year, i have tried many many diets....to no avail. I have done WeightWatchers, SlimFast, and a host of others...with no luck...having lost only 4 pounds or less on them. Some included exercise, some didn't. It did not seem to matter anyway. So... this is my last try. I have decided to do Atkins. Enough people I know seem to have done it and lost the weight fairly quickly. I am hoping against hope that it will work for me as well. I started induction 3 days ago and the sugar/bread cravings are already more managable....so i am encouraged. For exercise i chose to do it at home courtesy of my dvd player...i am now learning to bellydance. I used to love all kinds of dancing when i was thin...haven't danced in years because of the weight. I heard belly dancing was a good fat burning exercise...so i'm trying it....I might also try some step aerobics at home...no way i'm going to a gym looking like this,...but i hate monotonous exercises...so i'm not sure how it will work for me. If anyone out there is in the same boat...i'd love to hear from you....

Hello!Bellydancing sounds nice! It's a beautiful dance. My daughter and I want to try it.Walking (with music that moves you with a good beat in a CD player or cassette) is a nice way to begin losing weight and getting fit. With good walking shoes being VERY important. But,one needs to start and gradually increase the time and mileage.(smile)Last time I lost weight, being a mom of 4,that's how I did it,by walking 3 times a week finally at 2 1/2 miles one way then back again,or I'd take the kids to the school and walk around the grass area while they played on the playground for a bit of time.Kept a good pace walked with the beat.(I tried the step, but at the weight I was it was too hard for me.Maybe not for you though.)I stopped doing the walking when I moved,(didn't feel safe in that neighborhood) and sadly, over the years, gained it back and then some.I also ate on a food exchange plan that worked well with what I fed my family anyway.I kept the plan on the fridge, and it worked! So,I'm going to try it again.I've got to FIND it!It included 3 snacks a day too,I didn't feel deprived or hungry, and the weight poured off!(new neighborhood again, but this one looks like I can walk in it.)It is hard for me now to make the time for myself to exercise now, but it is really the only way for me to lose the weight and feel better,so,here I go again.I really need to do this for me,and to set a good example in fitness for my children, and give them a more energetic and longer living mother.I now need to lose about 100 pounds.I am parisparis (hope to go there one day!)

Belly Dancing is a hoot! There are actually classes where I live, and a couple girls from work and myself have been going. We even had to make veils!!!
Best of luck to you. I just started South Beach, and am finding that I am not hungry at all. Phase 1 is very strict, but there is not portion sizes, so you eat until you are full. Plus, with Phase 1 having little carbs, you fill up quickly. I tried Atkins a while ago and had to stop because a ended up with gout (ouch). Doc says that South Beach is better for you, but it's a personal choice!
I actually gave in and bought Carmen Electra's striptease aerobic DVD. If you can get past the fact that it;s Carmen Electra (puke), it;s actually very good. The hubby could reep the benefits once a few (dozen) pounds are gone!!!

Welcome and best of luck to you. It is really important to keep trying even though other diets haven't worked for you in the past. (which you are doing...good job) I read somewhere that most people that successfully lose weight have failed many times in the past. If you find that you can't lose even though you are doing everything right talk to your Dr. There may be a medical reason why you are not losing.

Belly Dancing sounds like fun. What DVD are you using? I am bored with mine. Like you I have 3 little ones and find it hard to get out of the house to exercise.

BELLY DANCING !!!

I had forgotten all about that! I use to do it when I was 20 or so..... I never took lessons but my friend did and she showed me how....I like that and if it will help me lose weight well then I will try that route too!

Welcome, and feel not bad...I need to lose close to 200 pounds! Also, I don't have any kids (yet) and so have no excuses for my weight...Anyway, this board is a great place to be. There are a lot of new people (myself included) and everyone is very supportive. I've lost 6 pounds in my week here. :)

Hi and welcome here (: I love my bellydancing DVD, it's so much fun! And man do you work those muscles. I remember when I first started doing mine, I realised muscles I never knew I had lol.

Some other DVD ideas are Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds - there are quite a few out there. Kathy Smith's are all good, too. Tae Bo is incredibly fun and Billy Blanks is very encouraging, when he looks right into the camera and talks to "you", you'll feel he really IS talking only to YOU!

Congrats on the Atkins thing, you're braver than I am! Keep us updated on how it's going (:

Hi, welcome I am Jennifer and I am in the same sitution. I am a mother of 4 and I just started also the atkins and with that I am doing walk away the pounds. It is an exercise that allows you to walk a mile in your home. It is very good I started with the 1 mile and loss 5 lbs, and now I am starting the 2 miles it makes you work up a sweat without jump up and down. when you finish the workout it makes you feel good about yourself. There will be times when you might slip up but don't get discourage just keep on going.
