This is a very good question. The short answer: YES! We DO receive too much information, and too much MIS-information. Most of it is common sense. To be healthy, we have to eat "right" and exercise. But what is eating "right" to me may be wrong for someone else. It is up to all of us to take what we know, learn what we don't, and apply this information to ourselves.

No, I don't really listen anymore. There's always a HOT NEW DIET or something. I truly believe that ANYTHING (well, most things) will work if you STICK TO IT. Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, etc. They all require that you follow the plan. That is the key to success.

I was commenting just the other day that I heard a news clip that said the same thing.

Honestly, I really dont pay it any attention anymore. Unless there is an article that seems interesting, then I would go ahead and read it. I really do not pay attention to any of the commercials or new diets out there.

I hate all the gimmicks and attempts to make you feel disgusted with yourself so you'll buy another crappy product ads... I think we all know HOW to lose weight (Burn more calories than we consume! :) We need to listen to our bodies (for me that takes a week or so of watching what I eat before I can even HEAR what it actually needs) and common sense... not to mention the old adage: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! (I just like to see Boflex give me the body I want in 6 weeks!!! LOL!!!! :)

My goal is to get to a place where I'm exercising everyday because I like it and that I'm eating well because it makes my body feel good. I KNOW these things but I seem to forget them... hopefully one day, I'll remember permenently. :)

Great question.

p.s. OH YEAH, you asked who I wouldn't listen to... Pretty much any of the misogynistic so-called "women's magazines." I will read the body building magazines (although I wish they'd feature women who really lift weight and have some muscles!)but even they are a bit insane. (Have to be because they're ad dependent to stay in business.)

I guess I am the weird one....I like to get everyones opinon then...make my own decision. This is the way I do everything in my life. Can't help it...maybe I am unsecure too.

But I'd like to know all the angles and pit falls before I make a decision. I happen to think that the best info is word of mouth. Then you can factually check that out. I don't like to read a lot of stuff. I'd rather ask then go read up on it if I have a burning question.

Also that is one of the reason I post here and to talk to you ladies.

I think there is way too much information. I think the whole weight loss/ healthy lifestyle thing is very simple...eat less than you burn and eat as much whole foods as possible. If you limit your refined sugars, over processed junk (that I LOVE) and eat more natural grains, veggies, fruits, lean protein you will be a "normal" size.

I laugh when I see all the advertisements on television. Every commercial is either a food ad or a weight loss ad. I definitely think many of the current diets can work for people if they stick to them, but I have a bad attitude toward diet companies. I believe they set us up for failure and are laughing all the way to the bank. I hate to sound so cynical. I am just tired of trying to make all these different program work for me and then beating myself up for failing. It certainly is my own mistakes that have put this excess weight on me, but companies pushing their diet ideas like it is the next sure thing didn't help.

Eat less, eat healthier, exercise more...that is it.

The way i see it, in 75% of the time, they are all right! I think there are a million ways to lose weight successfully, but what we need to do is find what is right for US. For me, I just couldnt do the low-carb thing, even though it works great for many people. It just wasnt for me. But that doesnt mean it doesnt work! Same thing with most fad diets. I think most of them work if the individual sticks with it. I personally like the idea of eating HEALTHY foods and losing weight that way :)

I have always thought that all the conflicting info you get did nothing but confuse me. So now I am trying to learn to eat by listening to my body. I did real well on Atkins but I couldn't leave the carbs out anymore and that led to binging on sweets. So now I have decided to not diet. Just LEARN to make better choices and eat what I want, with-in reason, and keep at it. :-) Stephanie 280/247/223 for now
