Well I started 1 month ago, exercising 1-2 hours a day, eating the South Beach diet, and have only lost 1.5 lbs in a month - 2 1/2 inches also. I feel this is way too slow! What am I doing wrong? Is is because I am 43 and my metabolism has really slowed down? Help - I feel I have put out so much effort and nothing is showing, except I do feel better and love the walking!

Has your doctor checked your thyroid? I don't know how old you are; but when you are going thru the change...it can change your thyroid. I would ask your doctor.

Then come back and tell us what the doc said.

Stay with us also!

I'd check with your Dr.first.That way things that may prevent you from losing steadily...like your thyroid, can be ruled out,or treated and then you can be on your way to losing at a faster rate.Even just going in,your Dr. may be able to give some suggestions or alternatives to help the weight loss along.

Good luck :o)

You said it... You feel better! That should be enough. Your body may be adjusting to your new lifestyle. Are you using weights? You could be gaining muscle and losing fat, thus not showing a real change. Do your clothes fit better? That's an excellent measure of how you are progressing. Please don't give up! You are doing so good!

Thanks for all your encouragement and suggestions! Last July I saw my doctor - no thyroid probs at that time as I went to one of those health fairs and had it checked. I am going to try being really strict on the SBD and have only 1 carb food a day - I have been haviong yogurt, fruit and 1 bread a day, but will change that to only one and see how it goes. Yes I have been using weights and my clothes do fit better - I lost most of the inches in my legs and hips. So there are some positives, but it is still frustrating - I will keep it up though, as I am determined to lose at least to below 200 lbs. this year.
