HI-I just joined ivillage because I can't find a message board for weight loss surgery so I hope I am welcome here! I have had a life long weight problem-highest weight 298-I have lost 100 lbs twice in my life but have never succeded in keeping it off. Anyways I researched surgery for 5 years and decided to GO FOR IT! The big day was Dec 10-everything has gone well-I had a couple of weeks off work-I am back now and have had not one complication-God Is good! Here is what I am frustrated about and if anyone out there has had the surgery-talk to me! I lost 28 lbs in the first 2.5 weeks- of course I wasn't eating-liquids only-but after switching back to solids, in the past 2.5 weeks I have only lost ONE pound! I DON'T GET IT! It's not like I can eat alot-1/2 cup of food or less at a time and I am supposed to be eating six small meals but I haven't worked up to that yet! So the combo of the lack of food and the fact that part of my small intestine can't absorb calories-doesn't this seem weird? Anyways-I weighed 285 a year ago, lost 15 lbs prior to surgery and today I weigh 245-I guess I should be thankful but I WANT MORE! ;0)Thanks! Nikki

Personally, I don't have an answer to your question, but I did check around iVillage - there is no specific WLS board here. We have a few "ask the expert" boards you could try in Diet & Fitness, though. I'm going to email you, Nikki (:

I can't help you with your question. I think I would ask your Dr. I just wanted to say welcome and I am glad your surgery went well. sharla

Well are you exercising? My sister had the surgry and her husband would not let her go to the gym, so it took a year to lose 100+ pounds.

I am told that you can gain all your weight back if you constantly eat...THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GAIN WEIGHT...that is what happened to my sister's co-worker. She thought she had a free ticket to "forever" weight loss. However, she has managed to gain weight after the surgery....so be careful.

Go see your doctor and see what he says.

I had gastric bypass on 1/8/02. After a year, I lost 17 pounds. Yes, 17 pounds. I NEVER felt full and found out at my 9 month check that the surgeon had to make my stomach bigger than normal because of scar tissue. (He apparently didn't SEE that note in my file until that visit.) I know how the disappointment feels, but remember it could be worse. I had lost 7 pounds at my six week check, after eating nothing for six weeks. It sucked. I don't want to burst your bubble, but there are sometimes mechanical failures.
