Finding time to exercise

How do you find the time to exercise? I work full time, and I really want to register for school soon (court reporting) but I am having a hard time deciding. I work 8-4:30 m-f, plus school will be from 5-9 m-th. It is quite a schedule! It is a 13-hour day with no breaks inbetween. The main reason I want to go to school is to get a better job with higher pay, and my company doesn't have much room for advancement. I chose court reporting because of the salary, and since I do data entry, it isn't too far off, lol.

Break up your exercise into mini sessions. Do a 15 minute walk on a break or 10 or 5. The important thing is that you are doing something everyday. On the weekend then you can get a couple of good workout sessions. I would put school first. I think an education is far too important to push on the back burner.

Jenn, I think you are wise not to set unrealistic goals for yourself. It will only lead to burnout and failure. I admire you for taking charge of your future and bettering yourself through education. That in itself is a big step! You can still take charge of your eating. I worked and went to school for a while and it was really important for me to plan my meals. I bought a small cooler and took all my meals and snacks with me to work in the morning. I packed them up the night before, because if you are like me, there is never enough time in the morning. Since I had my meals and snacks with me, I wasn't tempted to hit fast food or vending machines between work aand school.

You can still work activity into your day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Don't park so close to the door. Maybe you can do a short stretch routine before bed, that should relax your and keep you limber. Try to get some good activity on the weekend, walk, bicycle whatever you enjoy.

Good Luck!

I can totally understand not wanting to get up at 5 am to work out and sleep is definitely important...BUT, here's something to think about. The more exercise you get in, the more energy and stamina you're going to have to make it through those long days. It may help you wake up, and will definitely be a stress reliever for the busy life you're gonna have!

I agree with the poster who said to break it up into short spurts too. If you can find just 10 mins 3 times a day you've got 30 mins of exercise in every day right there. You could do something like 10 in the morning, 10 on your lunch break, and 10 before bed at night.

Also, be more active in your normal routine. Park as far away as you can, take the stairs, get up and move/walk around for 5 minutes every hour while you're at work if you're allowed.

Good luck!!

Thanks so much for everyones help and advice! I just got so stressed for a minute because I am a little overwhelmed. I was so used to just working 9-5 and that was it, I would spend the night doing nothing, and now everything is so different. It is just a completely different lifestyle that I have to get used to.

wow, you're schedule looks like what mine did til last week. the only tips on getting some exercise in would be doing crunches, hand weight and leg exercises for 15 min or so before bed or when you get up and maybe taking a longer walk to work. I don't see anything about kids so maybe that'll make it easier.I did it for a week or 2 then i got burned out. Good Luck =)
