a little depressed

I'm sitting on the couch feeling a little sorry for myself, so I thought I would vent. I took off work today and planned a 5 mile hike for me and the dog, Sofi, this morning. We took a trail in one of the local state parks with some good climbs, scenic overlooks and some eagle watching. Weelll..., I was about 1/2 way through the hike, the big climbs were over and was enjoying an "easy" stroll through the woods when it happened. One of my worst fears came to pass. I was walking through a ravine that was very muddy and slushy from previous snows and the recent thaw. I slipped, fell on my very well padded a** and twisted my ankle. It isn't a particularly bad sprain. I managed to limp out, but it was a very painful 2+ mile walk back to the car.

Now it is Fri. and I'm sitting on the couch with my foot wrapped and elevated. The most depressing thing is I like to take some long walks on the weekends and, unless I have a miraculous recovery overnight, I'm not going to be able to do that. So, such is life, I'm grateful it isn't worse.

I tell myself, it is not what happens to us, but how we deal with it that matters. We did see some beautiful eagles :)

Thanks for letting me vent,

Rae

You'll be back out walking soon, Rae. And what a wonderful pastime. Where do you live? I'm on the West Coast of BC and we've got gorgeous bald eagles here in abundance! Have patience and I hope you heal quickly!!!!!!

Cheers,
C

Maybe you can work with some 3-pound bells and work your arms and back....if you have ankle weights maybe you can work the other foot.

I am sooo sorry you messed up your ankle...I have broken both my feet, twice each. Not a bad breaks two very bad sprains and both of those that little cone thingy under the ball joint. So...I know your pain...and what a pain...

Thank God you made it back to the car!

Chin up..we love you

Thanks to all for your support. I am somewhat better today. I wouldn't be doing any walking today anyway as there is a cold, WICKED wind blowing!

Susie, you are right to suggest weights. I have been meaning to put together a weight routine and haven't gotten around to it yet. This would be a good time to do that.

Corrina, I live in St. Louis. We have bald eagles during the cold winter months. They come south to find ice free water in the Mississippi. They especially like to fish near the lock and dams, as the fish are temporarily stunned by going thru and easy pickins for hungry birds. British Columbia is on my list of places I would like to see. It sounds like a beautiful area.

Cool, Rae! :) I hope you do make it to BC one day, especially if you like to hike, there's no end to gorgeousness of the terrain/scenery here!

Hope that ankle heals. Happy weight lifting.
